Protests, Petitions & Pleas, Oh My!

Lots of people are working hard to save our soaps! It's amazing really how people have mobilized with petitions, blogs, advertisements in The Hollywood Reporter, press releases, etc. We can't all be everywhere doing everything, so do what you can. May 17 is Upfronts Day for ABC when advertisers view ABC's fall lineup & commit to upfront sponsorships. A protest is planned to take place while advertisers arrive for the ABC meetings. Be part of the Rally alongside other fans, sponsors, media, union members and maybe stars. If you can't make it to the protest, look for the photos tweeted during the day. Retweet them and send them to your local ABC affiliate with a letter requesting renewal of AMC & OLTL. For more details about the planned protest at Lincoln Center, check out www.soapfansunited.com. Hoover pulled it's ads, now we're working with Hershey to show similar support. Here's a petition where you can send Hershey your thoughts.

HERSHEY'S SUPPORT LOYAL FANS Petition

Check the comments inside for more info about Sony's alleged interest in purchasing and continuing the shows as well as other ways to express support of All My Children, One Life To Live & General Hospital.

Let's have a great showing by the Pine Valley Podcast!! Our friendships are forged based on our love of ALL MY CHILDREN, ONE LIFE & GH and all the other stuff we talk about. AMC got us here, but all the shows we love are in jeopardy. It takes seconds to sign the petition. Maybe it will help, maybe not, but the mere chance is worth a few seconds!

I signed it. I FB'd it, retweeted it, and did everything else I could think of with it. LET's get this done! 10,000? No problem! First, PLEASE SIGN THE PETITION YOURSELF, then just ask your, spouse, friends, lovers, families. Post it to your blogs, your Facebook, twitter, myspace. Make it emotional! Remind people how they watched in college, high school, what these shows meant to their moms & grandmothers. Pay your kid a quarter for every signature he or she gets! Cash in that favor your friends owe you! They may never have the money, but they can earn a credit for saving our shows!!

Also, if you can PLEASE go to the protest/rally planned for May 17, 2-6, Lincoln Ctr. Advertisers/media buyers will be there to preview ABC fall & buy upfront ad space. THIS is THE chance to be seen, heard & counted. Let the sponsors know this medium is a viable way to reach their demographic. Check out www.soapfansunited.com today for details.

At the May 17 ABC rally you'll show ABC sponsors your commitment to AMC, OLTL, GH AND have FUN meeting other fans! Bring friends & family whether they are ABC/CBS/NBC fans. Show up for your soap loving granny; the times soaps pulled U thru; for your favorite soap blog or magazine (PVP of course) so this special community continues to have something to talk about & places to gather, share & discuss! Tell all your friends, families, tweeters, debtors, etc. It's a peaceful way to DEMONSTRATE your right to have INPUT on what is on the PUBLIC AIRWAVES. It's not just soapy goodness, it's a constitutional exercise of freedom of speech, freedom of demonstration and all that shit too!

Hopefully I covered enough for broad appeal. Don't let Frons off easy. Be there for all the fellow fans who want to but can't!

@Shadow I signed, called, tweeted, etc. But I can't make it to the protest. Nevertheless, I will do anything I can to bring the Fronshole down!

A lot of you have talked about how the loss of AMC is being experienced as a loss that requires moving through stages of grief. I started at sadness and stayed there, I have been shockingly absent from the admirable efforts you guys have put forth to save our show. I sign every online petition and have called my local affiliate, but I feel a bit powerless.

I am glad that I have you fine souls to commiserate with for now; I have every finger crossed that the show will get picked up by Sony. I read that filming in advance as they do, the last episode will tape in late July. There is not a great deal of time left.

One note on the show: I watch every day, and I am enjoying the show, but very eager for the LoBro stuff to start. I had to chuckle at the captive Erica’s hunger strike. I could hear Ashley’s dead-on impersonation saying: “You think you can starve Erica Kane, I haven’t eaten since 1974!”

Shadow said...

That's exactly how I felt the first week. I just couldn't synthesize the emotion into words that made sense. The last podcast was really helpful, and it stirred me up. Who knows what will ultimately happen, but for now I remain hopeful and appreciative of what it's given me through the years including the dear souls I've encountered on this site. As always with AMC, I've learned some things recently because of it or at least been reminded of some things I should never have forgotten. It doesn't really matter why we care about the things we do or why we fight for certain things and not others or whether or not other people get it. What matters is that we are moved by something, inspired by something and challenged by something. This iconic, sometimes silly show gives me the freedom to go away and warmly welcomes back like a big hug from an old friend. Like any old friend we may part some day because of things we don't control, but it won't be because I gave up on it. This time it's my turn to return the favor, and if it passes it does so with my appreciation & admiration. 'It' of course is literally a lifetime of people who make up and have made up the cast & crew over all these years. I have always been sentimental and AMC and I go way, way back.

I'm still in the denial stage with flashes of anger. Nowhere near grief yet. I just can't believe it is going to end and I keep wondering if there is no way to save AMC and OLTL, is there a way we can relive the last combined 80+ years? Anyone for reruns?

I know soapnet is biting the dust. I refuse to believe it's the end of this genre. Sure, for the last 15 years it's been the reality show blitz. Aren't we all tired of that by now? Daytime drama will be back. The Chew will fail. That fat ass chef doesn't have the talent to carry a network show.

BTW signed every petition, but like amphitrion said, I too feel really helpless to stop that asswipe Frons and his fellow weasels.

Norn Cutson said...

I just keep wondering what jobs people are gonna get after this...
I can totally picture Farrah Fath workin' at a WENDY'S, but what's everyone else gonna do?

armless-phelan said...

@Norn, the Fords will probably go into porn, since that's all they're good for now. But I wouldn't wish Farah Fath on Wendy's. Her ass can go to Burger King so I never have to see it.

Join fellow fans, Union members & possibly some stars at The ABC Protest Rally on 5/17 at Lincoln Center across from Avery Fisher Hall from 2-6PM. More info is available on Craigslist at http://bit.ly/jqmLQR and www.soapfansunited.com. This is THE event to make our presence & numbers seen & our voices heard!

This rally has been reported by The Hollywood Reporter, iVillage, Reuters, AdWeek, many mainstream press outlets. SudsReport says stars are likely to show. The Unions are joining and will be present. And it's Upfronts so all the advertisers will be there. Even if you can't get to NYC, May 17 is THE day to send letters to Sony, NBC, Hershey, etc. and to bring the cause to your local affiliate with letters, calls, tweets, etc. Let's give them some Hell and save our shows. They made Lucci cry real emotive tears! No glycerin! Fuck that! Save #AMC #OLTL

I am all for yelling, calling protesting and writing to everyone who will listen that we don't want AMC or OLTL cancelled, but...I am really missing the discussions about the show. What do people think of the storylines? Of course, OLTL is insanely terrific right now, but I am enjoying AMC too. Anyone?

armless-phelan said...

@Stacy

Yes, OLTL is fantastic. I know I'm not alone in cheering when Marty chucked Natalie's stupid ass off that roof. And this Todd/Todd thing is interesting, even though I dislike both actors.

As for AMC, some things are boring, but you can see where some of Lorraine and Agnes's rewrites are kicking in. I do hate the Griffin opening a free clinic while on the run stuff, but only because it could be a set up to address immigration in America, but the show doesn't have the time to go anywhere with it.

And, as always, Brian Frons can kiss my ass.

Norn, Farah Fath reminds me so much of Parker Posey's character in "waiting for guffman". She worked at a dairy queen, chewed gum constantly, was totally vacuous, and was an unintentional caricature of Farah Fath.

Loved the way Dark Marty "spiked that football" after throwing Gnatalie over the ledge.

I'm not intrigued by the Eek doppelganger at all.

Hope the rally goes well and ya'll kick some ass. Wish I could be there.

With all the work going into saving US soaps, I just thought I would point out that the UK just got a new soap a couple months ago.

A spin-off of The Archers, which is pretty good and had an amazing story where an accidental death rocked the whole town back in January, we now have Ambridge Extra.

Ambridge Extra is more fast paced than The Archers, and aimed at a younger demographic, but rather than being open ended there is a defined beginning, middle, and end every thirteen weeks. Kind of like a telenovella.

There are two fifteen minute episodes a week, but you can't go back and listen to any you missed if you hadn't already downloaded them.

The Archers: http://www.bbc.co.uk/podcasts/series/archers

Worst Wig Ever award goes to Martha "Harpo" Mckee on Ryan's Hope. Great actress, absolutely horrid hair don't. I just don't get why any woman during any era would ever do that to herself. The other women on RH have lustrous long healthy hair. Martha has the honor of looking ridic!

WTF, when did this happen. Matthew and Destiny had sex? I must've slept thru that, I so don't remember that.

The new chick, Deana?, is so annoying. I hate the way she says Dayton. OLTL should not focus on any of the Ford bros, boring.

Yawn... another friggin' round of Cady Mcclain, she just never goes away. Never been a fan.

Shadow said...

What's the deal with Dixie's star? Is she Jewish now? How'd she do that with her nail?

I think the Erica doppelgänger is ok, not great. Nice to see Chrissy Lind's Bianca finally come alive. Marisa bugs me less. She seems more like just another chick in town now.

I thought it was weird when Scott said he was never that religious or whatever. Stuart's son, really? Would think prayer would be part of his thing.

They are making good use of the park. Amazing how everybody saunters thru there and finds everybody else sauntering thru there. Liza ghosting Jesse is goofy, although they've had some decent exchanges. Honestly, JaLu does OK when the material is right.

Colby's twitter/web addiction is credible even if a bit overdone. At least she actually does something now besides meddle & babysit. Sort of Kardashian. Rich kid, no skills. Parlays her life drama into a reality web show.

I feel like I should try to like Big Fat Caleb & Asher, but it's hard. Did you see the website Asher made for Courtlandt? Good god I could crap a better design. How can an E company on par, allegedly, with Perot Systems/HP be so unsavy that is a an upgrade? I would have hated to see the old website. It was probably a collection of polaroids of hieroglyphs on stone tablets. ha! But I guess that really isn't the point. The point us the conversation it set up & I already can tell Broderick's work at play because their material has some depth to it. Man, Big Fat Caleb is a sad sack, isn't he? Can he and Opal just get it on already?

Wherever Dixie resides I Hooe Zach is there ready to go all Josh Madden on Ricki. I really dislike the Ricki thing. Feels like treading water.

KWAK has been good. She looks hot too. Eakes started running and it shows.

Poor Debbi Morgan. She got in a fight with a lawn mower and has to play blind woman with a bad haircut. Give her magic pill or whatever. I don't want to watch her stare off camera thru the end of September.

Personally Jake & Amanda are hitting it again for me. Their scrump scene in the park today and talk of "special surprises" at home was pretty hot. She's freaking beautiful and he's bathing regularly so that helps a lot.

Scott is great if not too defeated. Madison bores me. I love it when Frankie gives Ryan shit. Still can't believe Jesse buried his daughter where he did.

From an article in the Poughkeepsie Journal:

"After many a hard day's work at the office, when a pile of laundry and a mountain of housework awaited me at the front door, it went a lot smoother when I knew an "All My Children" episode awaited me on videotape."

"Your emails and blogs posts confirm what I suspected: Millions of Americans will be unable to function properly when their daily "All My Children" escape hatch disappears."

From the Pittsburgh Post Gazette:

"A soap fan scorned is formidable, indeed. Since the April 14 announcement that ABC is canceling two venerable daytime dramas, "All My Children" and "One Life To Live," the faithful have been gathering their online energies in hopes of changing minds. Because the truth of the soap opera is this: Death rarely keeps anyone from coming back."

Why is it I can only find empathetic articles about soap cancellations in middle American news outlets? Seems like the bigger national outlets have so much psychobabble bullshit they want to say to expertly explain the demise of soaps: Facebook, Farmville, work life, reality programming. I don't mean there isn't some sliver of truth to it all, but people always had other stuff to do & things competing for attention. Instead of playing on the computer they actually went outside and did things. They weren't sitting around watching TV all day. The simplicity of it is the plethora of other viewing choices, failure of management to adapt the shows and more than anything the Nielsens which everybody knows is totally bogus. 21,000 households are measured & ABC doesn't count SoapNet or DVR playback. Oy.

I find it a comfort to just read unbiased accounts of soaper efforts to save the show or anecdotal editorials about how fellow fans are reacting and coping. I find it incredible that people go out of their way to be A-Holes in comments. It does make you wonder if Frons and his minions are out there trying to sabotage fan efforts. I think it's awesome people are passionate about something and moved enough to go to bat for it online or in demonstrations. Who is anyone to tell a person what they should care enough about to act on? I take this as a sign that maybe activism in America is waking up. People are tired of being shit on and having companies "too big to fail" dictate everything to them. There was a time when companies were "sized right" and so they had to listen to their consumers. Today conglomerates like Disney/ABC are so big that it's impossible to get through to them. Because they strive for generic, demographically bland program filler the creative process is totally stifled. AMC is a blip on the Disney radar. They don't care about art, history, theater, generations of fans. If they can get an extra 2% net, that's the bottom line. I know this tide will turn. It always does. They used to tout how the sitcom was dead. It's totally smoke & mirrors. If you have to wipe out & reboot practically your whole lineup, there is a management problem that needs to be corrected. It isn't a "bold move" to cancel everything and start over because you're an idiot and everything youbdid before failed.

It's just too sad that none of this seems to matter right now, and our Stories are going to be the sacrificial lambs to try to keep shareholder confidence.

Sorry friends. I had to get that off my chest. I'm trying to get back to funny, irreverent snark about the daily airings. My wife has been out of town. I'm Mr. Mom and I've had time to get all sentimental. 40 YEARS! Susan Lucci dropping REAL not glycerin tears. People losing jobs. The creative process stifled. Actors given gag orders.

Ok. I needed that. It's nice ti have friends who listen.

Norn Cutson said...

This says it all.

“And you ask a really smart question here,” she continues. “Because I have thought about this very question for quite some time. My feelings are that Brian Frons was handed a very healthy daytime line-up when he arrived and then he hired Chuck Pratt to be head writer. Chuck said to all of us in a big team meeting that he didn’t care about characters. He said, ‘I will not be writing character-driven storylines. I don’t care.’ In individual meetings with him, people would come out weeping and distressed because he would [dismiss their characters and histories]. Almost immediately, our ratings dropped. As actors, we did everything we could to save and respect our characters and their histories; although on paper nothing was there for us to work with."

Idol Thoughts 2: The Jimmy Levine Picks

Ok, I hate Jimmy. However, he picked a good song for Scotty & Lauren. Haley tortured Stevie Nicks& the fan was retarded. Lauren got better at the end but Scotty won it. I hated Haley Rhiannon. Seemed like she did too.

Idol Thought 3:

It's Scotty & Lauren in the finale. The judges screwed Haley with the Alanis song.

General Hospital has a new headwriter that was a Douglas Marland protoge, and Days of Our Lives has new head writers that wrote for Passions.

The former has me excited, the latter has me cautiously optimistic. If nothing else, Passions wrote for people of colour.

As for AMC, it's snoozeville right now. Although, I am enjoying LaLucci as this Jane Campell person, even if the story itself is ridiculous.

Shadow I'm still here. Just been catching up on my soaps...I fell behind once I found out about the cancellation. But OLTL has been rocking it.
A few notes:
I love mad!Marty. The hissing, the snarling, the pushing that Natalie off the roof is SPECTACULAR.

The bullying storyline has been amazing. Even Farrah Fath has steppe up her game. I know Rex was wrong for hiring those thugs but hell I would too if Jack did that to my kid.

The Tess/We/Jess thing is hilarious to me. It's redonulous but it makes me chuckle. Cutter is hot but he's as sleazy of Ford. I find myself feeling even less sympathy for Ford. Really? mad!Marty needs to kill him.

Deanna/James/Starr bores me. Deanna's head bobbles ad constant blinking make me dizzy. James is a doof. SAVE STARR

Love that the vets are front and center.

Aubrey needs to go.

Love my Matt/Des. LOVE. Poor Matthew having to live with this and poor Eddie Alderson being pushed out for those stupid Fords. I don't care about Nate and his "righteous" anger about Matty not stepping up...I should...but I don't. *kanyeshrug*

And lastly...is anyone else really bothered by Melissa Archer's eyebrows? She just looks suspicious of everybody all the time. I can't concentrate.

That's all for now.

Terry in Toronto said...

Of course Melissa Archer is suspicious, Natalie has never told the truth in her entire life so of course she thinks everyone else is lying too!

Loving Matthew and Destiny hooking up finally. I really want someone to be happy in Llanview. Ford and Cutter are both getting on my nerves. It's the rapemance 2.0 with Ford falling in love with Tess after he technically raped Jessica since she wasn't in her right mind when they made the baby and now we're supposed to see them romantically? No way Ron. Love you dearly and mean it but romance between rapist and rape survivor is not cool.

Florencia is on fire whenever she gets some airtime. Am gonna miss Marty but her time has clearly come. Too bad she couldn't have taken Natalie out permanently. Kelly and John raising Liam would have been interesting. Hasn't Natalie used up more than nine lives already?

Shadow said...

I've caught few minutes of OLTL here & there the past few days. You're right. Something is askew with those Natalie brow. Looks like she had them tatted or something. My wife did that & it was odd for two weeks. At first it was sort of Groucho Marx looking because they scabbed over. Nice, I know. After they healed it was very dark & defined which was unusual because her brows were so light before. Eventually the color faded & now it looks very natural. (Whew!) it's weird when somebody's eyebrows suddenly have a life of their own.

Back on AMC, Lucci needs to give Jane some different gestures & speech patterns. You know, that explosion seemed huge. I would think there would be some federal agents in there snooping around--possibly noticing the building in the middle of the quarry. It's like Pakistan or something. Everybody's just ignoring what's going on in there. Asher was crushed. Jane, Jack, & Caleb were all scattered about yet Erica's generator is fine & Jane just cruises down there at will.

In 43 minutes Jane went back & forth to Erica's, to Krystal's, to Kendall's to the quarry, the hospital. She probably cut through the park.

Shadow said...

"she probably cut through the park," LOL!!!!

Shadow said...

You know that on the first day of Lorraine Broderick's exclusive material that Erica's door will pop open & Jane will spontaneously choke on a Pop Tart & die.

Mel Got Served said...

The ultimate twist would be if Jane says "grandchildren" and everyone is like "Aw hell no. Erica refuses to acknowledge Kendall and Bianca's children by anything but vague pronouns."

armless-phelan said...

I'm really, really hoping that Lorraine and Aggie make Jane a stoolie of Dmitri's so that he could have Erica to himself.

If Michael Nader still has his head stuck in a bag of coke, recast with the guy that played Julian Crane on Passions.

Otherwise, how would she have been able to pay for all of this crap?

The revolving door of alters on OLTL is starting to lose its charm, although Wes freaking out because Cutter started macking on him was hilarious.

I just really, really hope Ron doesn't do the Jess/Tess and Ford thing some (disturbed) people are screaming for. The world does NOT need another rapemance, and I'm pissed at GH for starting it with Luke and Laura.

Shadow said...

I wonder if Jack will notice anything different 'down there' when he and Jane 'get busy'? I mean Jane had "excellent work" done so her face us the same, her ring size is the same, her lips purse the same, her bony hands are the same, her clothes fit the same, her feet are the same size, etc. So id Jack has sex with the doppelbanger is he going notice any variations in the love canal? I would think it would be hard to surgically match two vajayjays. .

OMG Mel, I could only think of you when Erica reached Spike on the phone and never used the words: Grandma, Granny, Nana or anything close to the first words a child would use when on the phone with a grandparent.

Come on guys, at least make a joke out of her hating the word of use Gigi or even Goddess but not: “Hey Spike it’s me, is your mom around?”

I remember how LoBro fixed the disastrous Ryan and Erica fiasco with one line. Erica asked Kendall if it bothered her that she was dating Ryan and, when pressed, Kendall said something like Eww, oh God yes! Maybe a week after the new stuff starts everyone will start calling Erica "GamGam Kane"!

I do love Susan Lucci; more now than ever, if that is possible. I suspected she always adopted the smart policy of never saying anything negative in print or filmed interviews because it would come back to haunt her. She has been very brave to criticize Frons and to decimate that hack Pratt. GO LA LUCCI!!!!

I have made a vow to watch every single episode until the end and savor every last bit of my favorite daytime drama!

He does know advertisers are going after Baby Boomers again because they're making more money than young people, no? http://tiny.cc/2tfn8

How the hell does this sexist, ageist, homophobic, racist asshole still have a job?! He greenlit vampires in Port Charles, which killed it, and now he's killed two other soaps, not to mention a host of failed talk shows!

Not to forget that he destroyed an entire channel, and can't get cable companies or advertisers interested in Disney junior! He's an effing failure in every respect!

donna said...

armless, Frons has more notches on his belt than just AMC/OLTL/SN.

He effectively destroyed NBC daytime, too.

Read this from We Love Soaps and tell me it's not eerily simliar to recent events. Right down to dickwad Frons spouting the same garbage.

http://www.welovesoaps.net/2011/04/flashback-nbcfrons-cancel-search-for.html

I love how he talks about 'boomers' with such disdain when he's older than dirt. Asshat.

Arizonagal said...

Donna, I read that We Love Soaps article. I know nothing about Brian Frons' bio, but if he's been around long enough to have canceled Search for Tomorrow in 1982 then certainly he himself is a boomer. I don't understand the animosity towards boomers. Frons is a businessman pure and simple. He doesn't give a damn about the quality of programing on daytime tv. He doesn't view daytime's content from a creative point of view. Thus, the Chew and whatever the other one is. When it fails in 9 mos like Wordplay did back in the 80's he'll just shrug his weak little shoulders and put on some other low budget crap (wordplay???, never heard of it).

This is an opportunity for the cable networks to put it out there and pick up our soaps. Aren't the best programs already on cable? We have a lot of alternatives to the big three networks, they should be upping their game, not dumbing it down and disrespecting their viewers.

Frons = Asshat = <3

I can't get over Barbara Walters. Yesterday there was a post out that Babs was worried people were hating on her. Hell yes they are! She was snarky to Susan Lucci when she guested on The View. She had to blurt out about The View's Emmy noms rather than allow Susan to finish her thought. On another episode Babs sat there on camera before all of America trying to convince us that Fronshole was teary eyed over canceling AMC & OLTL. If anything, Frons had tears of laughter not sorrow. Theirs is an unholy alliance, and Babs seems completely unsympathetic & ungrateful to soap fans who helped support The View. I posted all this on the blog as well as that although Babs was great with John Stossil 100 years ago on 20/20, but now she's a crumbling ball of dirt clouding my View of All My Children. I wish nothing but curses & ill will for Babs, The View, Frons & ABC after ABC's soaps disappear. Maybe then Disney will see that the reason ABC's daytime lineup failed had less to do with Farmville, Real Housewives or changing lifestyles than it did the gross incompetence of the fools entrusted to run the daytime lineup. At a time when soaps are exploding in popularity worldwide and even on ABC Family, 80 years of programming history on All My Children, One Life to Live & SoapNet are going to die because of Frons meddling mismanagement. They should all be careful what they Chew because there is a Revolution happening but from the View where I am sitting, ABC is about to choke itself to death.

That was pretty dramatic prose from a mild mannered guy. It's just so frustrating to be manipulated and lied to by Brian and Barbara Frons. It wouldn't be so bad if there was a way to bring the shows back, but once production stops it's over. Hard to believe that 83 years of programming, branding, social commentary, and entertainment can be so easily and unjustfully disregarded, especially when the fans to support it are present but unaccounted for by Nielsen.

The idea that young people don't watch soaps is complete bullshit. If you didn't know, last year Teen Nick or Nickelodeon, one of those, aired Degrassi for a month or 2 in a 5-night telenovela style. The ratings were fantastic. So kids/young people will watch if you give them good stories, characters, acting, etc.

I really don't understand why the networks won't do cheap ass, short run English language soaps! Sure, we'd still lose AMC and OLTL, but we could see our favourite stars in new roles everyday.

But no, Frons would rather have fat people and duck balls, because women 18-49 just LOVE being told they're fat and that they need to eat mallard testicles.

I just wish Kendall was smarter with more backbone, why does she need someone to tell her what to do? While I sometimes like the character, I think she can be a real doormat and a huge dope. She doesn't need that mindset to have good drama.

Thank you Arizonagal!

Kendall has put how many characters in jeopardy with her brilliant plan? And the plan is to get an inadmissible confession from a diabolic killer? Oy.

Please hope we don't see Griffin on a jet ski.

I haven't seen it, but I saw people twitter talking about how ABC used 20/20 to say that soap operas are useless.

I'm even more pissed off that ever!

IF AMC and OLTL can't be saved, would it be intriguing to YR big shots to take characters from ABC soaps and put them to use on their landscapes? Has that ever been done? Maybe I'm at the stage where I'm bargaining with God.

AZ Gal, after AW was cancelled in '99, the characters of Vicky and Jake were sent to ATWT. Of course, both were P&G soaps but Jake McKinnon gave ATWT storylines for years.

I think the closest we'll get to ABC selling infividual characters is bringing LaLucci to Desperate Housewives as Erica Kane. :/

Verla, thank God! Where you been girl? I was concerned about your ghostly self.

I didn't watch today, but I understand JanErica aka Fake Erica got caught swilling a brew. Interesting that she spent so much time and attention transforming herself into an exact doppelBanger of Erica Kane down to her bony ass and painstakingly recreated Erica's bedroom to the finest detail, but gets caught guzzling a tall one. Did she belch after wiping the foam from her lip? I understand that David knows something is up. Maybe JanErica's new tongue lashing sexcapades have Jackson too disoriented to notice. He's probably not used to sex without all the dust flying around down there. What's it going to take though? Erica pooping with the door open while she reads the latest Exposer? Has she got to come out of the lavatory exclaiming that nobody should go in there without a knife? She may look like Erica on the outside but will flatulence from inside be ger downfall? Stay tuned....

There is certainly no misunderstanding Robin Strasser's opinion of things right now. Her recent tweets:

Going to nix ABC Soaps In Depth. Respect writers there, but this is a Mouse House Mouthpiece.

ABC causing DEPTHs of parting pain for FANS. ABC SOAPS IN DEPTH: Which couple do you most want to END up together on AMC/OLTL?Please! If ABC "cared"about FANS they wouldn't END SOAPS.

More from Robin Strasser: I'M GONNA HARP( NO) on this: FOLLOW THE MONEY! They'll MILK the cow 'til LAST day when they turn 600 employees PER SHOW out to PASTURE. GET COMFY: Mama Robin's gonna talk about the "good old days" (lol) DAYTIME USED TO PAY THE BILLS FOR NEWS, AND MUCH ELSE on ABC.

More from Robin Strasser, who I am now building a shrine to worship:

UNTIL ABC's DAYTIME LINE-UP became #1-ABC was 3rd place! Daytime Serials DESERVE credit for that. STORIES can't be over-Anthropology 101. My #1-CREDIT our leaders/LINEAGE: AGNES NIXON! GREAT Story-teller who entertained, often educated. Created MANY characters/careers AND jobs!

I don't know how much longer I can watch flustered Griffin scream to Kendall alone in a cabin. And there's no use routing for him to get the girl if Zach returns so it's a waste of caring.

Shadow said...

Opal is going to mend Griff's broken heart with some old school throwin' down.

Shadow, that sentence alone has improved my day tenfold.

And I know Ugly Betty is a favourite around here, so I thought this might be of interest to anyone wondering why it died so soon. http://popconfidential.zap2it.com/2011/05/31/did-ugly-bettys-alternative-lifestyle-storylines-lead-to-its-cancellation

Mama Robin speaks the gospel! I'm happy for her candor but I hope she doesn't dig her own grave in terms of future work. Granted, she will never be on GH...as she's way over the max age of 35 for that show, but primetime too may not be calling if she makes too big of a wave.

@TheGhostOfVerlaGrubbs
Oh, Mama Robin is amazing. I think she's at the point where she doesn't really give a damn. I'm sure she'll be in a few web series and stage shows if she can't get TV or film work.

I don't watch Days of Our Lives, but they didn't renew Crystal Chappell's contract. They do know she's the modern Susan Lucci in terms of popularity and name recognition, right?

I swear, these soap operas want their shows to fail. Except for Y&R and B&B. They're just creatively stale, but not making any huge mistakes like the other soaps.

Oh well, it's not a show I watched anyway, so I'll just wait for her new web show to come out. Thank for letting me rant. :)
