Baby Steps

Our first post AMC and OLTL podcast! Jordan and I discuss what's left of daytime (that we're actually watching - well, at least Jordan is), some primetime drah-ma, and, of course, The Bachelor. (That one was my addition to the conversation, naturally.)

Thoughts? Suggestions? Comments? Leave 'em here, please. We love hearing from you, darlings!

Time to celebrate a new episode with Ashley and Jordan!

I think there's one word about AMC, unfortunately, Nik. That word is "dead."

EFF THAT FAT SHIT BRIAN FRONS. I truly despise him.

Oy! Ben Flaj-u-lence is a loser. Ugly, girly-haired, unsexy, girly-man loser. LOVE YOUR BLOG, MEL!

Yay for a podcast and THANK YOU for an entertaining hour. I am sad that you changed it to The PVP but it makes sense. The intro music was awesome and hilarious.

Have you seen the video for Gloria Estefan's new song, Hotel Nacional? It is pretty funny, and Susan Lucci is in the video and the song lyrics. "Drama's on like Susan Lucci. It's time for hoochie coochie" Maybe you could squeeze that in to your podcast intro. Keep a bit of Pine Valley alive. :-)

I was listening to the latest Daytime Confidential podcast earlier this week and Jillian Bowe gave a shout-out to Jordan. Maybe one day they will get to hang out. :)

Ashley, all I want now is to eat those peanut butter chocolate cups. Jordan, I hope you make it to Canada soon. I like living here.

Thanks for the podcast! I love listening to you two talk about tv. I agree with Ashley about Smash. I wanted to like it, too but I'm mixed.

You guys keep posting and keep the blog smoldering! Your comments here help form the topics of the next podcast. And check out the PVP Facebook page. I try to post news items there as we get them. Lots of good reality on right now. You gotta check out Mel Got Served's blog. She brings the funny to the absurdity of "reality" programming (the primetime/cable variety, not the soap killing variety).

Watching Idol finally. No wonder people are watching The Voice instead.

This year on Idol I'm going to vote for whoever doesn't finger the numbers to call and vote.

The judges love everybody. Apparently nobody sucks. Everybody does a good job. It's like little league soccer this year.

Hollie is adorkable. She's the kind that makes Idol fun because she's good, got potential, bu isnt too polished. Jennifer nedded to talk less about her doo-doo

"This year's American Idol is brought to you by Dress Barn."

Girls night was a season's worth of Southern Baptist Church Backup Choir Singing for the entire season. Now stop it.

Ashley, Ames as the bachelor? Helllll no! I heard on Reality Steve's site that he's a skeeze. I'm having a hard time deciding what old contestant could/should come back to be the lead... but Ames had fish eyes. I SAID IT!

Arizonagal said...

Everytime I see Ben, the bachelor, I think it's Josh Groban's twin bro. That hair don't is RIDIC!

Ashley said...

Ames does have fish eyes!!!! But I heart him! What's wrong with me?!?!?!?!?

Who the hell they gonna get? Guess we have to wait for the Bachelorette!

I'm trying to watch GH. It's hard - I have very little history with the show. But seeing Anna Devane is HEAVEN. Her grieving over her daugther is BREAKING MY HEART. Ron C., you are mad perfect genius.

Then I see Robin's daddy weeping over her and my guts are spilling out. Folks, if you're in need of a daytime fix, please try GH. Ron C. and Frank V. are gods. The show is excellent. (Except for that old lady waving a cleaver or knife or whatever the eff she was waving. No effing way Ashley Mendoza would be quaking in her bots over this old white lady. I'd a drop-kicked her ass with my eyes closed, and then had a root beer float.)

ArmlessPhelan said...

John J York is my main reason for watching GH right now. And the show is really good. Not perfect, but better than it's been in ages.

Terry in Toronto said...

Hey Ashley and Jordan, have you ever seen or heard of Coronation Street? It's a British soap that's been on the air since 1960 and became the longest running soap in the world when ATWT went off the air. I've finally started watching since I didn't know what to do with myself when OLTL was killed off. Would love to hear your thoughts on this very Brit show.

Arizonagal said...

Well holy cow, just watched Blair on Friday's GH. She was perfection, I just love her. GH is looking better each day. Frank and Ron are miracle workers. Love seeing Anna and Scorp. Minor complaint is Carly. I know you love her Jordan but she is like nails on a chalk board to me. She needs to tone it down. She spits her words out with such venom. Come on Ms. Wright, where are the layers??

Shadow said...

I'm with you AZ. Carly is the Ryan/Greenlee character of GH. I just don't connect to her. I'm not the most qualified to comment on Bachelor, but that dude had to be homeless like 3 months ago.

Shadow said...

Props to Ashley on her opening for the this podcast! Cracked me up. And even without AMC or OLTL, Jordan & Ashey still deliver one of the most entertaining podcasts out there! And still managed to work in some AMC/OLTL talk. Great job!

Arizonagal said...

OLTL - I'm watching the 2007 episodes on Soapnet. Anyone notice Jesse from Glee? I guess this is the high school musical arc and I love it. Can't wait to see what Jesse does for the big show. Some very entertaining teens and the beginning of Starr and Cole's romance.

The Bachelor - well he seems like a nice dumb guy who has absolutely no clue about what he wants. I don't see a future for him with either of the 2 finalists. This won't end well. No sparks with Lindzi, and no clue he's fallen for a psycho stalker. He deserves whatever he gets.

Project Runway - Michael Costello, stop the friggin draping for petes sake. Mondo you rock just as I expected you to. Rami went home too soon, bummer. Isaac M. said it best when he described Mila's dress as communist. I miss Heidi and Tim and Michael and Nina.

Mel, did you give up on the Biggest Loser?

Shadow said...

RIP General Hospital opening credits. The shrunk it from about 50 seconds to 12 and ditched the theme for some kind of squeeling guitarish Hell. Gives the net 40 seconds of ad time back. as you can imagine fans are pissed. If it keeps GH in the game and on the air I'm good with it. Shoot, at this point I wouldn't care if they arm-farted the AMC opening as long as they bring it back.

Ashley said...

It's me Jordan.

Okay just finished Smash 4... Darn now I have to see this show. My hottie Canadian Neal Bledsoe is on the show. If nothing else I get to see his beautiful face and he can act. Still like Will Chase and Debra's storyline. Thou I wish the directors would stop her when she starts doing Grace Adler. She did not have this problem when she was doing Starter Wife. Mcphee showed some brief signs of life.... Love the choreography for Rumor has it. Nick Jonas is so hawt! I loved the clicks because sadly that is what goes on backstage. Not all the time but like 95% of the time. And who ever says different is lying. The show still has some cring worthy moments. When Mcphee threw her tantrumat the other dancer and whined you should be helping me. Then for some bizarre reason three of them decide to take pity on her and then wind up loving her...uh to afterschool special.

Being Human UK Season 4 LOVING IT!. Great way to introduce the new blood. While I don't dislike the USA version. The UK is superior. The USA version takes themselves way to seriously and they seem to be missing the point of the show. These supernatural beings trying to be human. Plus the Uk actors are stronger, they play more levels and the characters are more rich for it.

Kirk Cameron...sad. Use to love him on Growing Pains. i respected the fact that he found God and was happy that he was happy with his life choices. It's a shame he can't feel that way about the GLBT community. I know people are saying what do you expect. There are some people who are religious but do not spew that kind of hatred. It is very ignorant of him at a time where more teens are taking their life. I feel sorry if any of his children or nephew and nieces are. No one should feel that kind of hatred from their own family.

Piers Morgan is a douche bag and should go back to England. I don't give a flying F&*^ in what context he said it...Kirk Cameron is brave.....really Piers...is the K.K.K. brave...was Hitler Brave...your a fing douche bag tool.

Ashley said...

When it comes to overall consistancy this final season of Desperate Housewives is second only to the first season. It's nice that in the end they went out the way they came in. I'm truly going to miss the show now. The woman have been giving it their all.

I cried yesterday during Once Upon A Time. I love that just like our fairy tales we get a moral every episode.Yet it was the trailer for next week that got me even more excited finaly RED'S story!

I know a few of you especially Mel are not feeling The Walking Dead but I really am fascinated with it. To me it's a study on human behavior. I thought last night's episode wasm so intense like watching a play. The scene were they took the vote was like 12 angry men. The journey young Karl went on ......chilling and sad. It really pisses me off that especially now the primetime emmys does not have a younger category for best actor and actress. With so many amzaing kids and teens doing work that is even more superior to their adults....they should be recongnized. This little boy is amazing.

GCB suprised me. I guess I did not know what to expect. While I can't say you all must tune in, it wasn't wretched. It had some moments. I think they poured a great deal into one episode. They have way to many characters. Annie Potts of course stole the show. I hope they getter better wigs or weaves for Cheowitz. I'm not from Texas but some of those accents seemed very forced. Will see where it goes.

Ashley said...

Much love to Tracy Gold and all the other stars speaking out on behalf of the LGBT community. I'm not saying that Kirk cameron does not have the right to feel and believe whatever he wants to. No matter how ignorant it is. It was the fact that he choose to voice it on Piers Morgan's show, when we are in a climate that has teenagers and children killing themselves because of this kind of hatred. Again I pray that none of his children are.

Ashley said...

I spent the day crying again. Which is not great when your sick. I finished up season 5 and the 2 hour season premier of Army Wives. The show may not be for everyone but it sure works for me.

Ashley said...

GENERAL HOSPITAL' Emma Samms believes if anyone can save GH it's Frank Valentini
"He’s interested in all aspects of the show, so hopefully that will make it a much more cohesive product. He was there on the set when we were shooting my scenes, and he was interested in the performance and the camera shots and the wardrobe and everything. He obviously cares about it and I admire that so much."

Ashley said...

Michael Easton previews John McBain's GH stint
"[Executive producer] Frank Valentini gave me an impassioned speech that really got to me. My biggest concern was that I didn't want to go to GH just to bait some of the OLTL audience. I didn't feel that was very valid or fair. It would just piss off the GH audience and disappoint the OLTL fans. There needs to be a really good reason why McBain is in Port Charles — something organic, not forced — and I think they came up with a good one."

Ashley said...

GOD HELP ABC FAMILY if they do not pick up THE LYING GAME. That was a finale with a twist. That is how it was done. While I knew who the mother would be I did not expect someone else to know it. What does this all mean. If ABCFAMILY axes this the way they did KyleXY, Beautiful People without alloiwng a proper ending I'm giving up on their shows. It shows no respect to the audeince who invest their time.

Ashley said...

THE VOICE...... how can you not watch these battle rounds and realize that X-Factor and A.I. are a joke. Gave me chills. While I agree with the first two choices. Christina made a mistake the first time not the second. Did not agree with cee lo but it was a tought call. But these performances were great to amazing.

Ashley said...

Two episodes behind on Alcatrez but I can say without a doubt the lead is so DEAD BEHIND THE EYES! How the F%^$ did she get the part. I really do not understand with all the actress out there this is the one they were like "Oh Yeah Baby." My god Brianna MonGrieff would have done more with the role. I think what the industry is new blood when it comes to casting. They are luck I'm into the mystery because she makes me want to stop watching. Wish they would have been more bold and given Parminder the lead. Instead we get another bland blonde who is so DEAD BEHIND THE EYES!

For the first time ever I'm all caught up on Fringe. I will so NOT BE AMUSED if Fox does not pick this show up. They have a story to tell...a mythology. It is so evident that they are on the last act but need 1 mores season to tell it whole. Don't screw us over Fox. Let them finish the journey proper.

Ashley said...

Just saw the daytime emmy pre noms. I'M NOT AMUSED!!! Ridic does not even cover it. OLTL is gone and still no respect. So many cast members were not recognized and two that were leave me baffled.

Ashley said...

Okay since you all love SMASH. I decided to give it another chance. Just saw the second episode. I did like it much more then the first. Despite two scenes that left me crining. That horrible predictable scene where the boyfriend got mad at her for being late to dinner and the scene were Debra Messing's son, gives the most monotone monlogue about his sister being in China. It would have been funny if it wasn't so tragic. Make no mistake Megan Hilty is the reason to watch. Katherine Mcphee is a little dead behind the eyes at time.

lol will say that episode 3 has been the best. For some reason the recent episode is not on demand. I have a story now which I'm really invested in the Debra Messing storyline with the affair with the actor. Also he is the first actor on the show I like. Thou I do like Ivy's gay chorus boy. I do think the assistant is just wretched and the way that he talked to Debra's character did not make him at all likeable. He was out of line. Plus

Blair Kramer needs to stay in Port Charles for her baby girl. Seeing Kassie today....She needs to be on contract Frank! I love that everyone is slowly hearing about Robin's passing and that we are gettign to see everyone's reaction to loosing this beloved character. Tony and Finola were magic. NuGH is HAWT!

Ashley said...

Sadly Terry I would kill to have access to Corination Street. We have Eastenders here on ch 21 but I don't know if they are showing them in any kind of order. I once tried and the two episodes that were back to back seem to have nothing do with each other. Many years ago ch 9 aired Neighbours from the very beginning and I was hooked and they axed it.

Ashley said...

The Good Wife is for Adults. Sophisticated, Intelligent, witty andcomplex.

ArmlessPhelan said...

Watching Days of Our lives right now, and that cast can be so horrible sometimes. Sigh. Then again, this show is where Farah Fath got her start...

Arizonagal said...

Wow, just perusing the news and read a Desperate Housewives spoiler that I really didn't want to see. No spoiler warning, no nothing. Shit! I hate it when that happens.

Ashley, are you really 91 years young? Is today really your B-day? But I digress, just wanted to say on the podcast you said you didn't work because you have two babies. Come on Ash, that is the hardest work there is and certainly one of the most important jobs ever. I raised two kids, thankfully not twins, and I do the career thing, and being a mom? Definitely the hardest, if not the most rewarding, job there is.

@Jordan -

You can watch Coronation street on a little website I like to call you...tube...

look up a user never surrender 6 (One word no spaces) he post the episodes the night they air in the UK :)

Its a brilliant show, it has some highs and some lows, but even it's lowest low is higher than some of the recent USA soap "highs"

Terry in Toronto said...

I agree Anonymous about how good Coronation Street is. After only a month I am totally hooked. They juggle a huge cast but there is not one wasted second of screen time. The characters range from kids to teens to middle aged to seniors and the actors all look like real people not out of some model magazine casting call. The stories also focus on real life issues like not having enough money to pay the rent, teen lesbians, keeping a company solvent in the recession and of course faking a tumor to win back the affection of an ex-wife.

With you Ashley on Good Wife. I love the maturity and the fact that the twists and turns in the plot lines are usually unexpected.

Shadow said...

OMG, The Walking Dead was intense last week. The struggle to preserve their civility & humanity in an uncivilized, inhuman circumstance fascinates me. And then the most perfect, brilliant ending. Little Carl IS a terrific actor. I know this show isnt for everyone, but the zombies are secondary. The drama is first rate.

brtedi said...

Hey All, I'm deligted to be blogging with all of you, again...From what I've seen, this week, the Mannings are rocking Port Charles. :-D (I hope the actors stay around for awhile.) My hat is off to Ron C. Go, Ron go!

I finally got a chance to try one of those delicious Organic peanut butter cups...Ashley was soooo right, they are simply amazing!

Jordan, they sell them at a place called Cafe 28 on 28th street and fifth Ave, in case you can't wait for Ashley to bring them over, lol.

Arizonagal said...

Walking Dead this week, holy cow. I want to know more about the virus!

GH - Carly STFU. She is the Cameron Mathison of GH. So annoying BUT I do see possibilities w/Todd. I know Laura Wright can act, but she's so one note and shrieks thru every scene. She did the same exact thing on GL and it drove me nuts. Whadda guttersnipe.

The Bachelor - never watched it before this season. Ben and Courtney deserve each other, both are skanks. Not sure I care about the finale, this has already played out in the media.

ArmlessPhelan said...

Gotta agree with ArizonaGal. Not a fan of Carly, or Todd, but they're really amusing together. I kinda like them. It's like Todd and Blair without all the bad blood.

Michael said...

I have to say that GH is about 1000 times better than when I stopped watching in disgust months ago.

When last I saw the characters of Robert, Holly and Luke, they were all soulless and horrid. Now, a bit of the past is back and we are seeing these characters being…dare I say…noble. It is refreshing to see a little light play against the shadow in Port Charles once more.

Naturally, I tuned back in for the OLTL characters. I would have been happier to leave Starr and Cole with their fairy tale ending, but the transition has been quite affective so far. I am enjoying the interplay of Todd and Carly, and it is always a treat to see the flawless Cassie DePavia.

It is a strong start. The one complaint is the retread of Sonny getting away with an endless series of terrible crimes only to stand trial for something for which he claims to be innocent. I hope they have the guts to make him guilty of the crime (though completely unaware of the consequences until after the fact). I think it would make the drama much more successful.

As always, thank you for the podcast Ashley and Jordan!

Arizonagal said...

Having the oldies back at GH it's almost like I never stopped watching it. They were on back in the Jurassic when I watched GH the 1st time. It was surprisingly easy to pick up the threads. I do agree about Sonny. He makes Todd look like a saint. I think McBain arrives tomorrow. Ratings are up so the haters need to just sit back and enjoy.

I caught a few moments of Chew and Revolution. This is some bad TV folks.

And a big Holla to Ashley and Jordan for finding the time to give us a podcast. Bless you two, you rule!

Ashley said...

Is anyone else feeling this way about GH? I almost can't watch, because this Patrick dude is BREAKING MY HEART. A million little pieces every day. So real. It's tearing me apart inside. And little Emma? My God! You've have to be heartless to not feel for this family.

And it sort of almost felt for a couple of weeks like OLTL was back. not a fan of the dead child storyline - it just didn't have to happen - but I am loving Todd back and mixing it up with Blair and Carly, then McBain all dude-ed out showing up, Johnny-Mac style. Just love it. I'm watching daytime again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ONLY SOAPS DO THIS PEOPLE! SUPPORT OUR SOAPS!

I finally picked up a PVR this week. Started recording GH on Tuesday, March 13. In fact it was the first thing I put on my PVR. :) (as an aside, it airs at 3 pm EST and where I live (another Canadian here) there is no way to get it on demand or even on time shifting) I never looked at youtube. Anyway, what a week to start watching! OMG

I watched GH as a child so I remember Robin as a child and Anna and Duke and Robert and Luke, and so on. I have no idea who a lot of people are but I am getting the gist of it.

Finola Hughes is FANTASTIC and she broke my heart at the funeral. I actually cried. And this is only my 4th episode. It is really great.

I don't get Maxie (sp?) or Spinelli (sp?) or the problems between Sam and Carly but I will stayed tuned to find out.

I can echo the recommendation for Coronation Street. I have been watching that on and off since I was a small child, even longer than AMC, AW, or GH.
We are so behind in Canada from the air dates in the UK that they are airing 10 episodes a week on CBC. Of course, I haven't watched in a while (I am out most weeknights when it's on), but I caught a couple of episodes recently and it was as great as always. TG for closed captioning, though, because some of those accents are hard to understand when you haven't watched in a while. There is a wonderful website (www.corrie.net) that gives amazingly detailed recaps and character backgrounds, etc. That show is an institution!
