Ok, Idol Thoughts...

Joshua was good. Isn't it interesting how wildly expressive he sings and how quiet he is otherwise? He was sooo uncomfortable in that duet with Phillip.

Speaking of Phillip. I don'tt get it. He really can't sing a melody. He looks like he missed a few spots in the shower. I think Simon would blast him.

Hollie. Holly. Whatever. I love her. Radio friendly, Big voice. Very tasteful. They used to say Carrie Underwood was a robot too. I like that Holly is the least professional. It makes it more fun and satisfying to see her grow and perform so well - working it out on stage. She is starting to peak. I find it curious how tough the judges have been on her. She can belt a song and when it's time for the judges~crickets~. Seriously?

Jessica. No doubt she's a very talented singer. She seems like the kind who find big success singing in European lounges like Whitney. Not sure I can envision her burning up the radio in the US. The other are catching up with her.

Skylar. Very likable. Huge energy. Works it out every time. Has a style. Often teeters on screeching, but she has her moments. More than the others, her excitement/nerves/emotions are palpable and people respond to that.

Hard call. It's usually so obvious by now who will win.

What's not a hard call? Jimmy Lovine. GTF out. Who gives a shit about him? He gets so much screen time! If I was an Idol contestant I would completely ignore anything he said. Talk about a diva. They could cut out 30 minutes or all sing another song instead of forcing his BS on us.

Ryan. Dude, get a haircut. Buy some gel. Smoosh the 'do down. He has a Lucy Ricardo haircut.

Poor Randy. Every episode features commercials with JLo and Steven hawking some new endorsement deal, but Randy's got nothing. It's like he's begging for a deal with LensCrafters too with all the goofy eyewear. LensCrafters is like, "Nope".

I finally watched The Voice. Didn't like it. Spinning chairs, flashing lights, no stage center/focal point. It's a siezure inducing set. Carson is no Ryan. The blended judges/public vote makes me appreciate the simplicity of
Idol. even with Idol I don't like the judges save thing.

Mad Men deserves its own post. It is so brilliant. Every episode has a shocking, unexpected WTH moment. Such a great tapestry of characters. I used to think the guy in the opening falling off the building was Don. Now I am praying it's Pete Campbell. What a weasel!

Love to all. So fun to have another little Mendoza join the family!

Ok, I'm confussed...Maybe because I missed Tuesday's GH, altogether. Who exactly shot out Zachara Sr.'s tires? Was it Johnny? Or, was it Kate/Connie?

brtedi said...

I watch Y&R pretty much every day. I know, Victor and Niki have a very long history together. But, I do enjoy the Niki and Jack Abbott paring. That said, I have yet another reason to be enthused: Jeff Branson's return--Yay!

Arizonagal said...

Brtedi, I don't think we really know yet who shot the tires, do we? I'm thinking it's Johnny since his even darker side is now coming out. We already know he's a cold blooded killer. Kate's just confused.

Glad to hear Jeff Branson is returning to YR!

I am incredibly grateful for the Veronica Mars reruns on Soapnet. If you missed this show the first time it aired, give it a try. It is one of the most smartly-written detective shows in the history of scripted television. And with the exception of the occasional appearance of some clunky cell phones, it holds up really well.

Now, GH been great lately-though certainly not perfect, it is such an improvement over the muddled, dark morass of the last several years that I am tuning in regularly. Personally, in a bid to save the medium, I would vote for a ten-year moratorium on “baby switches” and “people coming back from the dead” stories. GH has already gone to both these wells lately. Still, I light up every time a Llanviewite shows up in that crime riddled town of Port Charles. When Sonny and Todd fight, it is electric. When Sonny and that hoarse whisperer John McBain face off, it is significantly less so. I do love Starr and Michael and always Tea, Tea, Tea. I read there are plans to bring more crossover characters from OLTL and AMC. Eventually the show would be an amalgam of all three shows, in an effort to pool the maximum audience. Naturally, you can not believe anything you read on the internet.

I hope everyone had the chance to see Ms. Susan Lucci on Andy Cohen’s show. If I were not already in love with the woman, I surely would be now. Apparently, a young Mr. Cohen wrote the daytime legend a letter and sort of fudged a story about writing an article about her for his college newspaper. She took him to Lunch!! What a woman. Plus Cohen dissed Fronsie big time.

The Divas of Daytime were in Palm Springs yesterday. Cassie DePavia, Bobby EEEEKS! And the sublime Kathy Briar were a scant few miles from my door and I had to work. On top of it all, I read Mr. David Vickers-Tuc Watkins-served as emcee. I had to step outside and shake an angry fist to the heavens over missing that show.

Best wishes to all!
Hope all is perfect with Lady Ashley and Princess Paloma!!

I caught Ms Lucci on Andy's show, she is a class act. When I see her on the tube, I'm reminded of how much I miss her.

Loving GH, so good right now. BUT.. can someone please explain to me the appeal of Steve Burton/Jason? Ridic orange spray tanned oompah loompah douche bag who sent thugs to assault our McBain? I really hate this character.

brtedi said...

Thanks, Azgal!

I thought I was the only one left a bit confused about exactly who shot out the tires. Maybe, the writers haven’t exactly decided, yet, either. LOL! But, that said, it is interesting to see Johnny’s darker side being ferreted out. This sh0ould prove interesting when it comes out that Johnny shot Anthony, considering for the longest time he’s been the most reluctant mobster in Port Chuck. When th3e truth surfaces about Johnny causing Anthony’s death, I wasn’t to see Carly’s reaction…That should be fun. If you think about it though, she shouldn’t be surprised Johnny lied. After all, Johnny isn’t the first gangster she’s fallen for. She knows how it works. Largely the men (gangsters) in her life haven’t totally revealed themselves to her-for both their protection and hers.

On a somewhat lesser note, I watched “The Snooze” two days in a row, last week. I wasn’t quite sure which day Laura Wright was a supposed to be on. I haven’t seen that much forced enthusiasm/banter between hosts on a show, before. I know, Batalli etal get paid well to do this. But geez, what a waste! Daytime has (nearly) died for this?! If I want recipes I’ll flip to food network or the cooking channel-Thank you!

Michael, I really like Veronica Mars, too. A friend got me started watching it. It really is well produced—and not just for a younger audience, either.

Say what you will about baby switches and multiple personality storylines. Who cares, at this point, if we’ve “seen it before”. (I more that assume these are Ron C’s favorite kinds of storylines) The actors are going for broke. Robin Matson—Her character is totally over –the- top nuts…IMO. It’s great! Todd trying not to destroy Tea’s maternal bliss…I feel sorry for him. For me, that’s a first-LOL! Steve Burton and Kelly Monaco—Oh man! Excellent! I’m a soap fan…It makes me happy when actors go for the proverbial fences. :-)

AZgal, what can I tell ya, spray tan issues aside, the "oompah loompah" does have his moments, for some of us anyway ;-)

I find the those scenes between Sonny and Jason, where they are trying to reason out their problems, together, unintentionally funny...I swear, these two characters, at times, share the same brain! LOL!

This Dish/AMC thing chaps my butt! I just sent Dish this note:

I don't particularly care what the beef is between AMC and Dish, but I'm insulted Dish has such little respect for its customers that it would move AMC without notification. If I missed an episode or the finale of Mad Men because my DVR wasn't set to the new channel, that would be it for Dish. AMC has some of the few appointment, watercooler-worthy shows on TV. Work it out yourselves. Don't screw us over in the process. Those AMC ads were clever, but totally useless. Why would Dish respond by taking action that alienates its own customers to try to punish AMC? The only thing Dish accomplished was to draw attention to the deal and make itself look petty. It's this kind of thing that convinces me more than ever that AppleTV, Netflix, Hulu+, etc are the cheaper, better and more reliable ways to go. We're already losing SoapNet to the umpteenth Disney Channel. I realize that SoapNet was Disney's decision, but seriously another Disney Kid channel AND then you voluntarily screw with the one channel -AMC- that offers interesting, adult, creative, serial driven television? Transmission fees, whatever. Work it out. Leave the channel lineup alone.

Just had to vent that sentiment amongst friends. This constant tug of war over retrans fees is annoying. I don't have All My Children. I'm not giving up Mad Men & Walking Dead. And if I missed the MM finale over that crap? The Dish is coming down off the roof!

Arizonagal said...

Shadow I have DirectTV, it's good but expensive. I agree, AMC offers so much good scripted tv. Loving the Killing, Mad Men, and can't wait for Walking Dead to return.

GH is great right now, wow. Also enjoying DOOL. Sticking with YR, actually watching more soaps now than a year ago. Still miss All my Kids!

Perhaps Shadow or Ashley can explain why soaps are no longer economically feasible? Back in the day there were at least a dozen of them on.
