Less Than Perfect

Yeah, so, okay.... All My Children - uh, no, folks. It's not much better this week.

Things continue on a downward spiral. As if evil priests weren't enough, we now have to deal with Evil Jesse. (This, dear listeners, is a perfect oxymoron.) I kid you not, folks. We have another - yes, I'm about to say it. (Deep breath!) Another - stolen - baby!

We don't deserve this. The actors don't deserve this. Let's hope it provides some opportunity for Debbie Morgan and Darnell Williams to shine (as they always somehow manage to), but for the love of God! In the name of all that is soap, Brian Frons! WTF?!? You are about to get cancelled, mother f*ck$r! What the HELL are all of you dipshits at ABC doing?!?!?!?!

I've said it before, I'll say it again. With cancellation rumors flying, we need your comments, ideas, and thoughts now more than ever. So do your thing, dear listeners and viewers, here.

I couldn't believe it. I figured when the girl left a box in Brock's car there was a baby. But really? It just happens to be Afro-American? OMG. Couldn't they just let Angie and Jessie's baby die if they had to? Jesse's performance was heart-breaking and now the writers are going to take back all that beautiful emotion and TAINT it with this ridiculous, so overdone story line? Enough!

Mel Got Served said...

Yay! Something for the commute? But since there's a new thread, should I repost my Angie/Jesse SL rant??

armless-phelan said...

I would, Mel. It was an awesome rant.

Haven't listened yet, but I'm going to point out why I'm liking AMC so much...

It's because I'm watching Guiding Light. It was pointed out on Daytime Confidential, and it clicked, but I am watching Guiding Light right now. Same head writer, a lot of the same actors, even the opening is a Guiding Light opening!

WTF is wrong with Crapputhers and Fronsie to be letting this go on? Yes, GL was my favourite soap and I'm enjoying what's on my screen, but it's NOT All My Children. AARGH!!!

They should just go ahead and fire Kreizman and Swajeski. I'm tired of shilling for them when all they're doing is rewriting a show I loved, and pissing off the people that want to watch the show they love. I want to see what Pine Valley is all about, not some warmed over Springfield.

Fuck Kriezman. Fuck Swajeski. Fuck Crapputhers. And FUCKING FIRE BRIAN FRONS ALREADY!

My rant (repeated from the end of the last thread):

I am all for a good baby swap, but this story is sick. The idea of "just give Angie another baby- she's blind, she'll never know" is horrible. That's how I feel.

Not to mention you KNOW in 6 months, the real baby mama is gonna show up and try to take the kid. So obvious.

Also, the fact is they give us this emotional storyline of Angie giving up her sight just to have this baby and then set us viewers us for the slap in the face of her delivering a stillborn. These writers are sick and I don't know what ABC Daytime has against kids lately.

Not liking it. Act the hell out of it, but that doesn't mean it's by any means good or something I will give kudos to.

Wow, Ashley! Your rendition of Less Than Perfect is beautiful! I think I'm going to keep the episode just for that...
You're comments on the state of the show were spot on and I loved that article you read. :)
I don't know what anyone else thinks but I seriously think Kreizman is delibratly trying to kill our show because he doesn't care one bit about the industry. If Brian Frons cares about our show, why doesn't he just fire Kreizman?

Was it just me or did GH try to save a bit of money by not putting up the cemetary set, for Jake's funeral?---Or, could it have been that with all of the emothional scenes going on this week, showing Jake's memorial would have been overkill, considering the character is supposed to be only four years old?

I think, Michael was correct. Abbey should have pressed charges against her assailant. But, then, where would be the conflict if they both agreed. GH is a soap, afterall... Was it just me or was Brenda oblivious to all of the grief and emotional pain around her.She seemed very self centered, during Fridays episode...Or, am I just noticing that now. LOL!

So excited when a new podcast started downloading.

Still not watching AMC so don't mind that you haven't started talking about it yet and I'm 10 minutes into the podcast.

Loving OLTL! I want Snatchalie to suffer bigtime. She still won't take responsibility for her dastardly deeds. I have to say that I haven't really been thrilled with Kelly's return until now that she's paired with John McBain. Who'da thunk?! I like them together ... even more so for how it drives Natatlie up the wall.

Jordan, DC is reporting that Genie Francis is joining Y&R as the ex wife of Tristan Rodgers character:

Shadow said...

Is it really any wonder how Y&R stays no.1? I recognize more people on that show than I do on AMC. BIanca, Maggie, Special Johnny, Richie, Cliff, Ceara...Ok, Laura, but you get what I mean. What I don't get, and I don't watch YR, is how the show can afford such a large cast or popular actors. Their numbers aren't THAT good. Is it just a loss leading tent pole? I'd almost bet Melissa Claire Egan, Thorsten Kaye & Susan Haskell show up on YR next month. It would be easier to understand if ABC wasn't making crazy deals with certain actors & actresses who aren't that popular.

Brian said...

I agree with Mel 100%. The baby swap story is classic soap opera, but I can't help but feel sick over it. I nearly feel apart when I realized that Jesse was going to go though with lying to Angie about their baby. Not only is he lying to her, but he has done something that literally made me sick: he stole Angie's moments with her REAL baby. She will never feel her child's face or hold her in her arms. This is MUCH worse than Jake calling Amanda a slut! I will NEVER forgive Jesse and I can't see Angie forgiving him either.

John said...

Hey all, So I just wanted to 'out' myself as a new listener! I have been listening since the start of the year (but got a few back episodes) and I have been really enjoying the show.

I LOVED the "less than perfect" song at the end, so much so that I was singing it all night lol "Don't cancel AMCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCC"

Keep up the good work!

Oh and for PVP - Pine valley podcast! Just keep it the same but call it PVP, its like when KFC didn't acknowledge its Kentucky roots :P

Okay been keeping quiet but have to speak out now. Look Debbie and Darnel are amazing no matter what. They are master thespians. No matter what stupid storyline or wretched actors they have to work with. Yes I mean you Denise Vaseline.

Yes the baby switch storyline has been done. Classic storyline indeed. That has been done to death.

The things is this is AMC. I expect more. Agnes would never have gone down this root. She would have played the storyline dealing with the heartbreak of Jesse and Angie loosing their child after going through so much to have her. That would be classic AMC.

What is going on now is trash. Sorry can't see it any other way. Yet again people writing the character of Jesse and they don't know Jesse at all.

Mctrash writes this kind of crap. Bianca and Babe. Pratt writes this kind of trash Amanda/Bailey/Liza. Over it. Give us mature heartfelt storylines.

Will be so upset with GH if they take the easy way out and make it that Franco is responsible for Jake's death. Having Luke a major character be responsible and because he had been drinking. This is what soaps are about.

Dani Austin said...

I love that I can listen to the podcast at work via my headphones. The line of the pod goes to Ashley with "tranny Randi." I love it. The show just sucks. I so miss friendships between women on soaps. I do not like Greenlee but can tolerate Kendall. This is not a friendship this is a joke. All they do is cry, scream and scheme against one another. Darnell was fantastic during the birth and death scenes but sigh antoher baby switch storyline. The only interesting thing about OLTL is John and Kelly, they aare hawt! John is actually interesting when he is away from wide eyed Snatchalie.

Shadow said...

Story after story about ABC cast & budget cuts & cancellations w/ nary a peep out of CBS then BAM! Y&R gets Genie Francis & all the buzz. Screw it that it's GH's 48th Birthday. Her defection puts a whole different spin on it. And Forget Franco. CBS got the Susan Lucci of GH! Genie Francis is of the few bankable brand names the entire TV audience knows.

I mean if Eden Reigel going to Y&R didn't convince somebody of All #ABC's Assery, then Genie Francis should get their attention. I think they all hate Frons & Carruthers.

I mean just how bad does it have to get before Disney sees the Management Problem at ABC Daytime & on it's soaps before they decide to take their story lines in a different direction? New talk or current soaps-all doomed under Frons. He's the constant. Everything else, except Carruthers, keeps changing. He definitely knows how to lay blame for his failures.

Next week: Y&R announces David Canary, Julia Barr & Cady McClain are joining Y&R! (April Fools!)

And Kourtney Kardashian has the nerve to talk about feeling like a hooker on #OLTL? I feel like I should be covered in latex just looking her on TV. Poor Erika Slezak & Robin Strasser can't get enough sterilizing cleansers in the studio to disinfect the things she touched.

Nearly 1/3 of #AMC's cast was hired since 2008 & most of those were hired by Chuck Pratt. We STILL have Pratthole's skid marks all over AMC. Rancid, Madison, Brot, Natalia...

AMC used to revolve around snobby Phoebe meddling in her & grandchildrens' lives. AMC should recreate that scenario by having Jack & Erica marry for good and recast/reestablish the Montgomery/Kanes as the top PV family. Erica/Greenlee could be snarkier, funnier & more believable as Steps than dating rivals. Holidays would be infinitely more fun. They'd all HAVE to get along. They could ally when necessary & snark when it suits them. The Hubbards, less Rancid, could be the new Martins & the Martins their extended family. Opal, Pete, Asher & Caleb could run Courtland Manor & Electronics while JR, Colby, Scott & maybe Skye or Hayley do the Chandlers Dallas style. Bringing Julia Barr back puts a strong moral compass on Chandler House which would crimp the kids-especially if Jamey returned. Others just isn't any order anymore. No real allies. Too many enemies.

Shadow said...

Correction: There just isn't any order anymore. No real allies. Too many enemies.

Here's how I would've done the Jessie and Angie story so that they could've had this random baby stealing or whatever.

9 months ago or whatever, I would've had Angie go through the terrible decision of her vision or a child and either had her choose vision or miscarry. Her and Jesse would've then been pained by such a loss and wonder why this happened to them. Together they find an infant completely stranded, bring the infant to the police station and report it, but keep the child. Attempt to adopt it, but have it take years as foster adoptions often do. Have the mother appear trying to contest the adoption. Make it more a social/emotional story rather than "my blind wife will never know the difference."

Mel Got Served said...

I should add then when they find the infant, they would've felt like it was a sign that they were meant to find this child and raise life in this world, just in a different way.

OLTL is hitting on all cylinders in terms of story lines. The Bullying of Shane is engaging - nu-Jack can't act but Shane is definitely kicking butt as the victim.

I'm even stating to buy the idea of Ford as a dad. Its added a dimension to the character that is beyond just being a horndog.

I still can't watch AMC but have started watching GH. Its tough to become invested in a new show when you don't know the characters or their history, but a decade ago I started watching OLTL when AMC got crappy and after awhile I got into it. Hopefully the same thing will happen with GH.

Mark

Courtney H said...

Thanks for the podcast!

I've been forced to watch AMC again because there's nothing else to do right now and the AnJ storyline is sickening. For all intents and purposes, that baby was abandoned and all Jessie had to do was go through CPS quietly and adopt. I don't agree that he is taking Angie's blindness as a cover, i mean she was passed out and wouldn't have noticed that her baby died anyway.

OLTL is a bit better. I don't really care about Shane or Jack. I love Tess though!

GH makes me cry every day...but I am in the camp of the death of Jake being unnecessary. I wanted Jake to be SORASED and learn that Jason was his bio father and gave him up so that he can be in the mob. And if Jason had another child by then...all the more drama. I want Jason's decisions for his child to come back and haunt him the way that Sonny's does. the show always talks about the choices that Sonny makes when Morgan is being adopted by Jax or when Mike went to jail. Why not have those types of repercussions for Jason? Now they are essentially saying that giving up Jake was a bad idea and he would have been better off with Jason? WTH! I also would have liked Carly being the one that did it so a riff would be created between Carly and Jason. There were just other ways to handle the story and still get the same drama.

I noticed that Shadow commented about how many people on Y&R he recognizes from other shows. It's a shame that I don't recognize anyone from Y&R on that show...LOL! Y&R does cater to a few of their own legacies...but most of their great cast is put aside to hire actors from other shows...and that sucks.

Even if AMC isn't totally safe, Thank God for Lorraine!! If we can't have Agnes, Lorraine is the BEST!! I'm happiest for Susan Lucci & the Vets! Just think of the returns?! The cast offs?! The great podcasts coming our way!!

Michael said...

If the ABC Soaps In Depth’s tweet is correct, and LoBro is back and AMC is safe, I am a happy man. I do not want to live in a world without Erica Kane!! If any soap is to be taken as the sum of its parts, then All My Children is simply the best soap there ever was. Phoebe, Myrtle, Palmer, Nina, Greg, Jenny, Tad, Jesse, Angie, Brooke, Adam, Erica, Erica, Erica…..and many, many more have created a legacy of socially relevant, responsible quality entertainment for more than four decades. I hope that family album never closes for good.

The last post I will ever make about GH (because I have stopped watching for good): I am reminded of a quote attributed to Samuel Johnson, “The writing is both original and good. However, the parts that are good are not original and the parts that are original are not good.”

The melodrama has been extremely effective and the cast has been very deft at all of the gut-wrenching agony. Two transplant stories affecting the same family inside of one generation strains credibility, but if it is done well, I have no quarrel with it.

When Sonny shot Dante, I thought the show was trading its soul for a really good Friday cliff hanger. When Jason told Lucky that if he were any other cop, Jason would have killed him, I could not believe my ears. Then Jason, when faced with the death of his son, said how ironic it was that he gave up his son to protect him and his son was hurt anyway. Of course, Alexis came to the same conclusion when her daughter was abused, so it’s sort of a go-to response in Port Charles.

How about coming to this conclusion Einstein: “My God. Why did I give up my life with my son to stay a flunky to a criminal? What is my life if I choose to protect criminals and refuse to protect my own family and live a decent life?” But no, General Hospital has been in the mob monkey house so long it does not even realize the smell in there.

Every legacy character has been gutted by the writers. Laura—homicidal maniac. Luke, who once aspired to be a better man to earn Laura’s love—homicidal drunk. Felicia and Robert Scorpio—deadbeat parents. Holly---deadbeat parent and criminal. The Quartermaines have been killed off one by one for years now and the show has become a joyless, dark morass populated by good actors playing abysmal, amoral soul-less characters. Soaps need light and shadow. The light has gone out of GH for me, and I’m done with it.

Sorry the post is so long. Even if nobody reads it, I had to vent!

I hear you and believe it or not I agree. One of the reasons I stopped watching GH.
For the reasons you mention. I in no way think that the show has been in good hands with Phelps in charge all the stuff you mentioned fell under her reign. How I wish Wendy Riche would return.

What I'm enjoying are individual performances by certain actors. Certain couples and storylines. Does not mean that I enjoy the show as a whole or think in any way that it comes close to incredible Labine Richie era.

And as flawed as it is I truly believe it to be in a better state then AMC. Here is why for most of GH's run it was fluff. The show was on the verge of being axed when Gloria Monty took a gamble and history was made. Yet even then the show was popular but a joke. Secret spies, weather Machines, aliens etc. etc.

AMC has a rich respected past in groundbreaking storytelling. I expect more from AMC.
Only hope this new rumor is true. Lorraine should have been made head writer from the get go.

I loved this tweet from Cathetine Hickland yesterday just before the news broke about Lorraine Broderick & #AMC:

RT @cathickland ABC Daytime: For the love of God & respect, let your actors, writers, staff & VIEWERS know what's going on. Your creating suffering.

As you may recall, Cat played Lindsay Rappaport on OLTL and was married to Michael E. Knight (Tad).

So if LoBro is back, I think what ABC is doing is giving it one last reprieve. If viewership doesn't go up during this hopefully rejuventating period, THEN I think it's off. But since LoBro's short reign a year ago led to some good stuff, I think we could have a shot. Now if only she could make this past week an April Fool's joke.

Shadow said...

I hear you Amphitrion. I always respected GH, but never enjoyed watching GH. Even now, I only care about it as a tent pole for the rest of ABC Daytime. I'm just glad one of the shows has held up somehow & generates some buzz. I can never quite get a read on it though. GH fans always seem so evenly split as far as loving or hating it. OLTL has ALWAYS been my number 2 soap, but I have huge donut holes. Periodically it would bore me to tears. I loved Tina, Cord, Max, Gabrielle, Luna, the Wolecks, Asa, but the time travel, Eterna and all that BS would send me running. I was always interested in Ryan's Hope, but it could be slow. I always liked it best when Ilene played Delia. I was young & she was such a vixen and so stupid. It was a pretty entertaining combination to watch. I always skipped days. RH you could miss weeks and pick it right back up.

AMC, good, bad, whatever--I just made this connection to it at such a young age. In my 30s it seemed silly & grew inconvenient to watch. I was working non-stop, married, started a family & taping on a VCR was a PIA. Whenever I was home during the day, AMC was there. Like an old friend, a hug from a grandmother, or a family meal with all my crazy relatives. I'd watch and remember all those summers home alone with my dog at my side. 100 degrees outside, bored, microwaving nachos because I couldn't really cook. 3 channels to choose from because they hadn't invented cable yet. Just me and my pooch while everybody was at work. Too hot to play outside. Watching all those crazy grown ups doing strange things in Pine Valley, NYC, & Center City. In college in the Communications building there were 3 TVs in the common area that aired the soaps--one for each network. It was FILLED with hot girls. And I knew everything about AMC, enough about OLTL, & could bullshit my way thru GH. It was great for meeting girls. Years later SoapNet arrived & I could watch AMC to wind down & fall asleep. My wife and I both watched then. She doesn't anymore. I understand, but for me AMC is important. I associate so many warm memories with it, and I love the people who have brought it to me and preserved it for me all this time. Like any old friend it's time will one day pass. I just hope it's peacefully & respectfully in the hands of someone like Lorraine who cares for it like I do.

Lorraine Broderick has 4 Emmys--of which 3 were for her work on All My Children. Agnes Nixon hand picked LoBro to assist her every time Nixon returned to rejuvenate AMC. In fact, Lorraine returned after Pratt as a favor to Agnes Nixon.

Jordan Hudson 2.0 said...

I too dont trust ABC . They also told the cast they were not moving and look how that turned out. I do think that Kreizman and Swajeski had to go. Lorraine had the show so on track when she was in charge for those few months between Pratt and the current team. It was incredible what she accomplished with the state Pratt left the show in. If she could do it then she could do it now. The show is nowhere near as bad as when Pratt left. yet of course everryone should still write in to save both shows. It is no longer a matter if one should go over the other. If one goes that will make it much easier for ABC to eventually get rid of all of them. SAVE DAYTIME DRAMAS!

donna said...

If you're following Jamey Giddens on Twitter, those of you who don't trust ABC are correct.

And if Fronsie really does cancel AMC or OLTL, you can bet your ass everyone on Twitter, Facebook, and elsewhere will work their asses off to see Fronsie kicked to the curb!

I haven't been on this blog in awhile but I'm glad I'm not the only one that thinks this story with Jess and Angie is THEE WORST STORY EVER!!!!! Jesse would never do that to Angie plus she and the rest of the family could never forgive him for denying them the opportunity to mourn for that child. Whoever thought this was a smart move should be fired immediately. I admit that this provoked a reaction but it's the wrong kind. If we're all screaming that characters wouldn't act like this, the story is inherently flawed.

Just watched Wednesday's episode. How f'ing depressing. Darnell knocked it out of the park, but that didn't stop me from saying this storyline is totally repulsive (in between sobs). Like I've said, I'm down for baby swaps any time (I always talk about Footballers Wives, which also had a baby pass away in the process), but this is just too much. You made us invest MONTHS in Angie giving up her sight t has this child, then you kill it? HORRIBLE. Let's hope Lorraine Broderick can write his mess out of the shitter.

brtedi said...

Was I the only one who noticed Angie & Jessie's baby got a sudden name change from "Ellie" (2.0) to "Lucille". At first I was all, now what are these writers doing???--At the last miniute, "Ellie" is her middle name---Weak writers. Very weak. :-(

Mel Got Served said...

Brtedi, is it possible the baby is now named Lucille because technically Ellie passed away? Instead of just passing it 100% off, it's like a slight acknowledgement that this isn't Ellie, it's another baby. Sort of Jesse's way of paying respect to his deceased daughter without spilling the secret.

Just a guess, since I haven't seen it yet.

The day I saw Jesse bury his dead daughter in a 2 foot shallow grave in the park... I knew it was over. Jesse is dead all over again. The storyline is disgusting and sickening. I've got about 1/100th of the moral compass of Jesse and Angie, and you'd have to hold a gun to my head to get me to do something as disgusting and revolting as that. Brian said it best - "Jesse" has not only made viewers want to puke with his actions, but he's also robbed Angie of the last moments she could have ever had with her baby. AAAAARRRRRGGGGHHHHHH! We gotta rename Jesse quick, 'cuz this ain't him.

Shadow said...

It's bad enough Angie couldn't see her baby. Now she never even gets to hold her either. Appalling. I appreciate that Debbie & Darnell are acting the bejeezus out of the material, but K&S are so caught up in their plot they either didn't consider or don't care that Jesse wouldnt do this. Obviously neither of K&S have kids because they would understand what it would do to a woman to have this happen to her or that it's worse that Jesse doesn't actually love her enough or trust her enough to let her or respect her enough to let Angie know the truth. Angle is a woman of faith capable, however hard it may be, of recognizing the tragedy as God's will and carrying on with her life. She has faced tragedy before and survived. If Jesse can't give her enough credit to face this too and be man enough to be her rock through it, then he doesn't know her at all. He certainly isn't Jesse Hubbard. The more interesting story would have been Angie's struggle with faith, Jesse supporting her while struggling silently, and how they make it through ultimately together. It could have been powerful. It could have involved the whole town, former characters -- even a few angelic visits by Jenny or whoever to put them back on the right path. But this is K&S material, not Broderick's. And it shows.

Mel Got Served said...

Thank you Shadow- so perfectally explained!

I think I would've almost accepted this storyline had Jesse and Angie delivered the baby and BOTHfound out it was stillborn, said their goodbyes and THEN Brot shows up and has the baby and they keep her. It's this whole "hide it, the blind lady will never know."

I mean, Footballers Wives did their babyswap kind of tastelessly, I mean it's a favorite SL but pretty out-there, but at least that show was pure camp.

Michael said...

I must echo Ashley, Shadow and MelG.

I can think of baby swap stories that involved women pretending to be pregnant (Sunset Beach comes to mind along with a few others) or a woman thinking she lost her baby only to have the inevitable reunion. (Knots Landing, All My Children with Babe and Bianca…) The idea of a loving father burying the lifeless body of his daughter in the backyard because he thinks his wife isn’t up for some bad news is so distasteful it is unwatchable. Great actors for sure, but at some point, this must have seemed too implausible to execute, even if it seemed like the scripted scenes would pack an emotional punch.

Love All My Children, and I half-promised myself that I would refrain from any criticism since cancelation could be looming, but come on……

Shadow said...

Not to mention Jesse is the Police Chief and just burying a body somewhere without proper procedure is illegal--let alone claiming a baby that isn't yours--that you don't know anything about. "Hey, this one is defective. Just give me , um, that one!" Oh, and leaving a baby in a cardboard box in an abandoned car? Illegal! How many babies die every year from being left in cars too cold or too hot? An unlocked police car filled with electronics and possibly guns? Simply not going to happen. That's how dumb they think the viewers are. And please, you know there's a good portion of the daytime viewing audience who have seen the inside of a cop car and baby mamas who know the proper procedures for abandoning a child.

Brian said...

The baby swap is still eating at me. I can't get over the fact that Angie will never get to hold her daughter.

I have never been more appalled at a storyline (and I'm including poison pancakes).

About all we can do is wait for Lorraine to make the best of it & try to convince ourselves of the other explanation we have in our heads. Natalia is really Cassandra. Gabby isn't really Zach's. Randi is a really good actress. I wouldn't hesitate if AMC just did an hour recap/reboot where they just acknowledged the things Pratt, McTavish & K&S screwed up and fixed it somewhere. Call it "Erica Does Dallas" or just point blank tell us in an interview. Or, if they cancel the show, scraps the crap, bring back all our favorites, and give us an ending with people an characters we love. AMC fans have had to be forgiving. It's easier to do when the show includes faces we recognize and care about. Granted the legacy characters have aged and may not be up to full time again, but there are a vast number of middle aged characters -- Haley, Jamey, Bobby, Dottie, Emily Ann, Pete, Reggie, Mateo, Brian, Tim, Hilary, Julie...not mention some great characters that are a bit older Mark, Skye, Brooke, Janet-Sane or thinking she's Natalie, Ellen, Barbara, Nina, Gloria, anyone not dead from the 90s....I have faith in Lorraine. She worked miracles last time. I just hope the kids today appreciate character driven stories. People today seem to enjoy the short attention span theater stuff with lots of shock value and quick payoff. I like a slow build to a big climax.

Feel awful for the Angie & Jesse story. It's truly tragic-they've done a lot of silly things on AMC like poisoned pancakes, libidizone, the unaborted fetus of Josh, but this is really just straight up horrible.
I can't watch it. In fact, feels like I'm Ff'wing through most of the show, except for when Emma is being nasty to Greenlee.
I bet RYAN will be the one to figure out that baby Lucy is not the Hubbard's. He solves all the crimes in PV as it is!
LOVE LOVE LOVING OLTL... I am spoiler free, but guessing that Vicky is going to have a personality break of her own now that Charlie's been caught with Echo. !!

What do you mean Norn?

I'm just saying that in a character driven story the plot essentially should build slowly beginning with a steady pace, then backing off a little, then building to a slightly fuller, louder, longer lasting intensity of twists and excitement, backing off again, and so forth, until it crescendos into the final epic climax. It shouldn't just be about the money shot, but the entire slow-burning build toward a climactic release. It's a far more gratifying experience.

Does that help?

Am I the only one bugged by all the scenes done in the park? Is the budget so bad that they have to use the park for every encounter?

Ricky and Diana constantly meeting up and discussing plans for Kendall (BTW, when are they ever going to revisit the stashed papers that Zack hid on the boat?). Aren't they afraid that someone will hear them or see them talking? (They even meet up at Krystal's and no one has seen them together there?)

Kendall and Griff go to the park for a dinner out, Miranda, Marissa and the kids are there playing tag, even Annie was there with Emma when she thought she saw Scott. Asher overheard Damon and Liza talking about sleeping together. Everyone goes to the park to talk about their secrets! What's with that? I'm tired of the park, I think they need a new place for people to meet up.

brtedi said...

With the arrival of LoBro, to AMC, I have hope for a few things: Considering the absurdity of Jesse (apparently--I don't know how I missed the scene) buring Ellie in the park couldn't, as someone previously aluded to, Angie be just now comming out of a coma--and she just dreamed this bilge we've been seeing?--Personally, I'd love to see Angie faced with coping with her blindness, while dealing with new motherhood at this point in her life. For me, that would be the 'real' story.

And now for "Grif" and "Reverend Dimples" Couldn't this be more of a classic soap triangle--with a slight twist. Let's just say, "Rev. Ricky" is actually a reverend, afterall. Gee, what a concept!--And yes, he still falls in love with, Kendall. Wouldn't it seem logical that the rev would be conflicted? He is a flesh and blood man...But, with certain moral covictions he is bound to uphold as a cleric and a person of faith.

Would Pine Valley's ,queen of grief sex, be able to hold out, until she remarried? Or, would she succumb to the charms of "Dr. Buttercream"?, to borrow Opal's term.

If handled correctly these three characters really could be part of a real slow burner triangl/romance in the better sence of the term.

And finally, I ask you, will we get to see 'classic'--snarky, bitchy Greenly return? I hope so. Up 'til now we've endured insecure, desparate, manipulative, Greens. I don't knowabout the rest of you, but I'm so ready foor a change.

I'm at my sister's & was looking forward to watching AMC so I could discuss with ya'll, but it ain't gonna happen...

I didn't tell ya'll, but my sister lost her baby on xmas eve... the drs told her it was either her or the baby, so they induced labor. Stella Grace lived for two hours before passing.

When Shelby heard what was coming up with ANGIE & JESSE, she got upset, but we still planned to watch together.
But as soon as ANGIE went into labor, my sister couldn't take it.
"TURN IT OFF!!!", she screamed.
Now she says, even if its the end of AMC, she cannot handle this storyline.

Mel Got Served said...

@Norn I'm so sorry for your sister's loss. :(

I honestly do not know what the eff if Fronsie's problem. Soaps are getting so much attention lately, Susan Lucci just released her book, Kim Zimmer has one on the way... And yet he okays an Erica Kane doppleganger story and is now pushing a Jason/Sam baby on GH less than a month after Jason's other baby was run down by a drunk driver who was let off for an accident despite, I don't know, DRIVING DRUNK!

While I personally thought Shane's suicide would be powerful, I'm still relieved OLTL didn't go that route after the horrible way child death has been handled on AMC and GH.

The common denominator to every bad decision on these shows? Brian Frons. I hate that Fronshole so fricking much!

I just hope AMC plays the Erica doppleganger as camp, but knowing how Kreizman's dumbass works, it'll be even worse than when YR did it.

Anonymous said...

So, today ended with a dead Drag Queen in Griffin's bed. Kreizman must have gotten an unreleased copy of Fronsie's autobiography.

I honestly don't know why I ever thought this baby swap story would be good. Debbie and Darnell must have just sold the hell out of it, because now I'm finding it incredibly insulting.

And why the hell is Angie blaming David for her blind latin boy disease? This is so stupid. I just... And as much as I love Cara, why isn't Jake or someone else figuring out it's not Angie's baby?

I am so glad Kreizman and Swajeski are back in the unemployment line where they belong.

Norn Cutson said...

thanks, ya'll.

I watched OLTL today & had a couple of good cries... I cannot believe that KFC BUKKAKE is movin' me to tears, but she's really stepped up her game. I lost it when she was the nurse why they were there.
It also helps that she & REX have more natural haircolor, I can take them both a little more seriously... now if they would just chill out on the rooster hairdos.
LOVE LOVE LOVE BLAIR & STAR, you can really tell that Kassie DePaiva & Kristen Alderson have a close friendship in real life, and it makes their scenes that much stronger.
Also loved DESTINY with NORA... & the moment between BO & REX.
I know I'm the only one here who loves VIKI... & I LOVE her goin' off on ECHO. Looks like ECHO thinks she's gonna get some revenge, tho I don't know what for, *she's* the manstealer... though obviously CHARLIE was lookin' to be stolen.
I guess they are gonna pull out one more NIKI SMITH story before OLTL ends.
I'd love to see NIKI or JEAN go off on ECHO!

Norn -
ROOSTER do made me laugh out loud. And I'm so glad you mentioned being teary at OLTL yesterday b/c I was too! And I was surprised that I was...Bo and Rex was super sweet and when they were telling Rex adn Gigi that Shane couldn't be alone, and making sure they didn't have firearms in the house...I am glad they are being so thorough in this story telling and really covering all the angles. Not just Shane's point of view, or Jack's - but both sets of parents/grandparents, etc. I liked that Blair was questioning her own parenting and wishing that Todd was there...
I am sorry to hear about your family's loss, by the way.

Oh and I LOVE Vicki! I didn't realize I was in a minority (other than Jordan Hudson who doesn't like her) ;)

"...And why the hell is Angie blaming David for her blind latin boy disease?...."

armless-phelen, if I recall correctly, it was something like this: David made ridiculous budget cuts, to the point where proper medical gloves were unavailable, during an emergency situation.

Was anybody else kind of creeped out by Kendall's dream secquence, when Griffin was watching her sleep? IMHO, that wasn't romance. That was just wierd.

Unknown said...

Not to knock OLTL but yes it is on a upswing but there was a hugh amount of time when OLTL was in worse condition than AMC does anyone remember Eterna or Vicki goiing to Heaven. Soaps have ups and downs.

Not everything on AMC is bad. During the whole Shane bulling and Jake dying. AMC had some sweet light moments. They actually told a few good jokes. I like to laugh with soaps. Also AMC has couples the other tow not really.

Terry in Toronto said...

Norn, sorry about your family's loss.

I agree with the postings about OLTL being on FIRE! There is so much going on and some of it is really unexpected. I like that Matthew killed Eddie Ford and that Bo and Nora have to deal with this news. What I want to know is when Clint is going to really start having to pay.

Tess is delivering some classic lines but I don't buy her and Ford together. When he was kissing her on Friday it made no sense whatsoever.

Looks like Marty has one trick left up her sleeve before she leaves. I hope it's not what I think it is because I like John with Kelly and Natalie needs to suffer at least a year. Flashing her tetas at Brodie is not cool. So NOT cool. I used to really hold Jessica and Brody up as the ideal romantic couple and I'm so crushed that they've been torn apart and it has to be irreparable with the whole Liam paternity fiasco.

Glad Vicki's come to her senses and that Charlie is out. I want to see Niki get into a slapdown with Echo. That would be worth it.

Can't wait for the next podcast!

That is clearly not a compliment. I can't wait for LoBro to take over, but I know she can only do so much. That bitch Craputhers has got to go as well, but I think she's the one that been setting up Fronsie's "dates" with Cameron.

I'm ready for her to get her sight back. One eye is fine! Who cares! I just don't want go watch her stare to the side blanklessly anymore! Yeah, there's some ok stuff on the show but it's mostly because of good performances over bad material. LoBro needs to take swift action. Don't just boycott ABC daytime. If we want to show how many of us are viewers, viewers they're losing, we should all tune into another show, another soap preferably, for an entire week. When a competitor gets a huge bump in the ratings, they'll see our numbers and see their mistake. Say you won't watch, but it won't matter unless you SHOW THEM they LOST the numbers to someone else.

The minute $u$an Lucci came out with her book I was *absolutely, positively sure* that the show was going to end- I mean, IMO it was quite obvious. She knew what was going on all this time. Why write a book now, after all these years? So she could time it perfectly to be released during cancellation rumors (and now cancellation TRUTH) to garner sales! (Ka-ching!)

Between that and seeing her on Oprah hawking her Pilates stuff and her facial system in a thinly veiled commercial (Ka-CHING!) I have completely lost any kind of admiration I once had for her as a person. She was obviously tipped off by ABC (as she was the only cast member told about the show being moved to CA, while everyone else was shocked by the news) and did her damndest to cash in. (KA-CHING!)

So in the meantime, she's lying to the viewers and stating that the show is not being cancelled as the rest of the cast and crew are panicking. Nice, Susan. Great to see you cleaned up with the book since your piss poor "acting" is not conducive to you getting any additional acting jobs. Oh, unless Lifetime (owned by your friends at ABC) calls, looking to redo Ebbie.

Enjoy your money while your colleagues are searching for work, you selfish, self-promoting phony.

Been gone for awhile, death in the family and all the chaos that entails. But, after reading the totally devastating news, I just gotta chime in here. What a waste of air is Frons. This makes me sick, and what will we get in replacement? An updated version of some tired ass game show? What can we do here? How can we prevent this from happening?

OLTL had me cryin' yesterday with the Langston/Starr scenes. I know some are hating on the baby story, but Debbi and Darnell have shown us how to turn shit into shinola with this stuff, they are so good.

Network weasels have no soul.

Totally feels like a death in the family, doesn't it? For so many of us, we grew up watching our soaps with our grandmas or moms. For me, it's a piece of my childhood. We had a housekeeper who I would ride the bus with to go shopping and we'd have to stop, no matter where we were, and stand in the TV dept. at a store to watch her "program". If we were home during her show, she wouldn't answer the phone or the doorbell. It was that important to her. I'm glad she shared that love of her "stories" with me. And I'm also super sad that my two favorites are going to be gone soon.
Glad I found this online community of fellows to share the grief.

I HATE YOU BRIAN FRONS!!!!! I literally despise you. You NEVER cared about daytime or any of these shows that have been on since my parents were children. If you loved the shows and cherished the viewers and cherised the history where were the "Plan B"'s?? HUH?! What about cutting them both to 30 mins, eliminating half your costs? Now everyone is out of work instead of just a couple.

I saw a post on another site with people "catsing" as to where they'd like the recently unemployed vets to go... um, where are they going to go?! People don't get it.... DAYTIME IS DONE! This is the coffin being lowered...and for what? A talk show?? A weight loss show???

VERY ANGRY and I feel VERY USED and taken advantage of by Fat Head Frons and even Anne Sweeney.

I also want to know who told Jill Larson and Bobbie Eakes that they were not going to be cancelled when they twetted a few weeks back. Were they lied to as well OR were they contributing to the deception???

Sorry, just very very sad....

TheGhostofVerlaGrubbs said...

Question: Some fans will almost definitely lobby to get these shows back on the air. Is there any way that will happen?

Quote from Brian Frons:
No. We really spent a lot of time learning from our success with The View, talking to viewers about what they're looking for and we have tremendous respect for the passion of our serial fans but we're at a point with these two shows as much as they've done for the network and as much as we appreciate them. Their time here has come to an end and we're going to spend our efforts trying to make a success out of the two new shows The Chew and The Revolution which are in genres that as we talk to viewers they want more of.

WHO THE HELL OUR THESE VIEWERS THAT WANT TO SEE "THE CHEW"???

JSpear8 said...

Who gave that prick Frons the idea we want any of this crap? He needs to stop saying "WE" because he does NOT speak for me.

Hey guys,

I know it's been a while and I miss you all very much. I've been away at school and busy with stuff... I just want to let you all know how much I love PVP and the family that has been built here. In these rough times, I think that it is imperative for us soap fans to come together. AMC and OLTL are being shamelessly and ruthlessly ended for the self-benefit of Brian Frons, and it is a crime against art and Agnes Nixon for him to call himself a member of the soap family.

I can’t remember all the calls I got from my mother that started: “Did you see what happed on AMC today?”

It is making me sick to watch the show now. I know everyone is lobbying for this or that but, it isn't going to happen. They want it gone. If it goes to another network it won't be the same. A lot of the cast will not go and it will suck. I do not like being so pessimistic about it but, I have seen it before.

Why is this happenening to our suds? In the old old days it was all soaps, all damned day. I was a kid and my mom was watching EON, GL, AW, and others ad nauseum. What else was on the tube? Why is it in the last few years the network weasels keep telling us soaps are money drains? I get that network TV can't wait to drop the soaps, but in this day and age there must be another medium for daytime dramas, another network?

Honest to God, AMC, OLTL, shit I grew up on these shows, they are part of my life, my tradition, full time career mom, husband, didn't matter, still made time for my suds after the kids homework was done.

I still believe these things go in cycles, and if we make it past the friggin mayan calendar, the old soap genre will be new again and soaps will return, the hell with the myriad of boring talk shows and self discovery bullshit.

They don't care about viewers. They didn't care about the actors. They are only interested in getting their version of the story out there first, hence no advance word to anyone.
It's laughable that they are seriously putting a show on TV called 'The Chew". I am not criticizing whatever the show's content may be -- I just can't believe their "focus groups" told them this was a good title for a show!
Too bad Soap Net is dying too --seems like it would be simple to put all the soaps on 1/2 format on cable channel.
I think ABC is in big trouble across the board - daytime and nighttime.

And they have serial programs I like & will actually pay to watch! I have a wife, kids, and some disposable income! We try new products too! So ABC you can kiss my white, cardio toned, pop culture addicted, consumer product purchasing ass good bye. I don't do toxic relationships. I'll support my imaginary friends till their world goes dark, but then I'm never looking back toward your end of the dial again. Chew on that for a which.

I do wish I could shake each hand at AMC & OLTL and say "Thank you. Your work was a gift that touched my life. I appreciate you & will cherish the memories all my life".

Voice Your Protest of Soap Cancellation via Hoover.

We're making every attempt to pull our spots from these programs sooner. Because we feel that’s not enough, we also want to help get your voice heard with ABC. So, we’ve set up a special email address, SaveTheSoaps@Hoover.com, to help pull together the mass emotional outpouring of support for our beloved ABC soaps and get it to our contacts at ABC. Please, send your emails to us at SaveTheSoaps@Hoover.com, and we’ll get every, single last one of them to ABC. We’re 150% committed to doing what matters most to you – so if there’s anything else we can do to help or you have any ideas, please email this address, and we will respond to you personally. Thank you for standing up for what matters to you! We need more of that in this world. Brian Kirkendall Vice President of Marketing Hoover .
