Emmy-non-a-mous!

Well, leave it up to the Daytime Emmys to make Brittany Allen a star! (Not even her starring role on All My Children could do for Ms. Allen's career what a miserable 2-hour show that no one watched did.)

I could NOT have said it better than Joe Flint from the Los Angeles Times. Take that, CBS! (Dipshits!)

What do you think, dear viewers? We still care, and we want to know! Do your thing, beautiful people, here?

I know I'm probably the biggest GH hater on this blog, but I have to agree with our lovely hosts: the show is getting better!

Now onto important things... The Daytime Emmys were less of a joke and more of an insult. I could have tolerated the Vegas spots if soap stars did them, but what the hell do the Massey brothers have to do with Daytime? They're just annoying.

And watching Wayne Brady shuck and jive had me looking for his organ grinder. It may be offensive to say, but it was even more offensive to white. The man is a walking Amos and Andy skit updated for the modern age. Plus, Guiding Light was my show so I have to hate him for that.

AMC is vastly improving. Greenlee is less fun and bitchy and more vicious and cruel right now. Hopefully that changes when Madison goes crazy and shoots at her, but misses and hits Ryan right between his bulging eyes. Though that's just wishful thinking on my part.

And why shouldn't Madison take credit for Randi's miscarriage? If I were responsible, I'd march through the streets of Pine Valley playing hallelujah on a trumpet!

As for OLTL? It's firing on all cylinders. The show isn't perfect, but it's better than most primetime shows right now.

"More offensive to white" should have been "more offensive to watch." Ouch.

Carol Burnett coming back to Pine Valley?! The Ghost of Verla Grubbs may become the Bad Face-Lifted Phantasm of Verla Grubbs!

Michael said...

Thank you Jordan, that LaLucci story made me love her more than ever!

Re Verla:

Did anyone else hear Carol Burnett (when she was promoting a book) tell the tale of how in the pre-VCR or Tivo days she would have her assistant send telegrams about the happenings in Pine Valley when she was traveling abroad? She hysterically relayed how a horrified innkeeper in Italy (with no idea about the show) was trying to brace her for all the bad news that came in a telegram about Palmer being sterile and Erica doing this and Phoebe scheming that. It was a very funny story which I do not do justice to here, but she had always been a great fan of the show, and it is marvelous that they can work her in one last time.

Thanks for the new podcast Ashley!

Great opening. You guys are way too funny!

Jordan you are so right about OLTL being hot right now and I'm totally loving it.

It's always so interesting when the PVP goes 'on location'. Keep up the great work.

Can't wait to listen!

THE FLYING NEGRO said...

Awesome intro guys, muy gracioso, lol. Jordan is gonna' get attacked by a whole crop of Platano Patch Kids. OMG Jordan hates Black men too! He will also be attacked by Watermelon Patch Kids, lol! I kid, I kid...

Armless-Phelan, I think that the Madison shoots Greenlee storyline was a Kreizman-Swajeski one, and it was scrapped. I hope so, cause I am so sick of women going crazy on AMC.

I can't wait to see Carol Burnett! I remember when Verla first came to town, Langley was sh*tting bricks that Phoebe would find out. Carol Burnett showed that she could also be a dramatic actor.

Too bad these returns are too little too late, but I will take what I can get.

Sorry, Jordan and Ashley, I still think beady eyed Sarah Glendening is awful as Marissa. She can't act. The character is bad enough without a muppet playing her. How could Bianca fall for such a stupid woman. I think I would know if someone was coming onto me.

Anyway, I am enjoying AMC of late. I will stick with it until the end!

HAHAHA I was just watching AMC today and while David was talking to Jane (erica), he referred to Ryan as a neanderthal!!!! I loved when you guys would call ryan, Ryanderthal!!!

THE FLYING NEGRO said...

^I can't wait to get home and watch Shadow! Something tells me the last three months are gonna be really special!

Brian said...

AMC has been pretty good since the Ricky stuff was ending. I LOVE pretty much everything on the show right now. Seeing Amanda stressed over Jake and Cara has been SO good! And I'm glad that Bianca finally got a storyline. Her and this version of Marissa is AMAZING! This is a great story (but I hope Marissa has a bi past). I don't know about Ashley and Jordan, but Jane is working for me!!!! Susan is doing such an amazing job playing a second character. Jane and Erica truly feel like different characters.

On to the Daytime Emmy's, I don't understand how in the heck old Marissa got an award. Does anyone know what footage she was judged on? I can't think of 1 good scene. Yet MCE and the tall Scott didn't win? Um, this just sucks!

Love the podcast but I wish Jordan and Ashley would go back to breaking down the week's storylines (which means they would have to watch). I get that stuff get's in the way, but I want the full-on recaps like before! Love you both and every podcast makes me laugh.

THE FLYING NEGRO said...

I agree that the Jane/Erica stuff has been pretty good. Susan Lucci is really selling it to me. Finally Christina Bennett Lind gets to shine as Bootyanca(Eden was Boobianca, Christina got back!).

From here on, I think we can expect Jordan and Ashley to do recaps of the show, since LB's stuff will be front and center. After the show is over, I hope they continue to do a podcast about pop culture and stuff. I love hearing Jordan's gay bar horror stories and drama, and I love when Ashley schools us on Spanish words. The only thing better would be a Jordan/Ashley videopodcast, lol.

TheGhostofVerlaGrubbs said...

10 episodes behind and can't wait to catch up... I watched an episode last night and thought to myself, "Wow, not as bad as I thought..." This is after a hiatus that began after Palmer's memorial episode.

Shadow said...

TFN, Bootyanca is perfect and so true. CBL has a nice one.

So, I took my boys to see XMen Origins. It was good! January Jones was the week link. Beautiful girl. The rack is real! But the acting. She emotes like a piece of wood. Every time she was onscreen I could hear Ashley in my head bustin' on January. My son wanted to know what was so funny.

Shadow said...

What do you guys think about TV Guide Canada giving Nelson Branco the ax?

Terry in Toronto said...

I hadn't heard about that Shadow. I wonder what happened? Is it because so many soaps are getting cancelled?

armless-phelan said...

Flying Negro, I posted what you said on twitter and Eden herself called it classic. Nothing from Chrissy, though. :)

As for Nelson, people need to pull the sticks from their asses. Soap fans have said a lot worse than someone is an anorexic bitch that can't act. Sad to see him go, but it doesn't surprise me that TV Guide Canada didn't want original content on the website.

Shadow said...

Officially that's the word, although there's speculation his twitter activity of late was partially to blame. It was probably opportunistic. Lots of restructuring over there. Alienated a lot of people with his recent comments, and apparently somenody may have hacked his account and posted some hateful stuff. Who knows really, but I think Suds Report & SoapGeist are done for now.

Shadow said...

Who did he say was an anorexic bitch? I've also heard his commentary on Melody Scott Thomas & pimping Chrystal Chappell were possible issues, although all that seems like BS to me. I did think he was harsh on Richard at SID -ABC.

Shadow said...

Holy Shit I'm jumping outta my skin! Glimpses of Mary Fickett, Sean Cudahy and Trevor in these Dixie flashbacks! Lorraine, you are an angel.

Michael said...

Shadow, you likely have found out by now, but it was Kristian Alphonso. He strongly hinted that she was behind the firing of his buddy Crystal Chappel. I am too tired to IMDB the names, so the spelling is probably off. I always made a point of reading the Suds Report, and did not even realize until I saw the Michael Fairman story that it had gone away. Nelson always was an envelope pusher, and the furor was likely an excuse to end his lucrative deal with TV Guide Canada. PS if anyone has the new issue of our TV Guide, there is a picture of DOOL’s Hope dressed up in a “Black Swan” costume. I thought it was a homeless transvestite or an extra from Priscilla Queen of the Desert. Very, very scary photo.

P.S.
I also loved seeing those old faces in the flashbacks.

DancingElf88 said...

Personally I was never a fan of Nelson Branco. Yeah sometimes what he said was funny but he always went overboard. He goes from snarky to over the line way too quickly. He's kind of like the Perez Hilton of soap journalists. And honestly, he's representing TV Guide Canada with his twitter and things. Now if he had said those comments on his own PERSONAL account, I still wouldn't like him, but it's his personal account he can say what he wants. But when he does it under an affiliation with TV Guide...that's a problem.

THE FLYING NEGRO said...

LOL! Armless-Phelan, I hope I don't offend any of the bangin babes of AMC. I'm just stating the obvious...lol!

Shadow, as an Xmen fan, I was kind of appalled at how the movie portrayed Emma Frost...like some drink wench. I'm glad her role was minor, because January Jones couldn't act scared if wolves were chasing her. Overall I did enjoy the movie. Lisa Bonet and Lenny Kravitz daughter...how smoking hot was she in this film?!

Onto the show. I am loving bitchy Greenlee! David and Jane are hot together, and for the first time since Jordi Villasucio joined as Grif, I wanted him to kiss Kendall! Can't wait to see what else is in store!

Shadow said...

You mean the fairy girl with wings who spit fire balls was Bonet & Kravitz daughter? I had no idea! If I had a superpower it would have to involve flight but I'd be pissed if I had to sprout fairy wings to get off the ground. Great movie though.

I watched Monday & Tuesday. For the first time in eons I was moved. Emotions were stirring. I felt overwhelmingly sentimental. Lorraine is going to kill me these next few months. It will either be the overwhelming emotional punch of her All My Children or the 4000 dumbass commercials for ABC's Wipeout. I think I get a little dumber each time I see a promo for Wipeout.

armless-phelan said...

So... TSJ wanted to leave OLTL until the very last moment. But things were already set in stone story-wise. Jamey Giddens reported it, so you KNOW it's the truth!

Listening to the podcast in bits & pieces as I travel. The opening is one of my all time favorites!! La Telenova Todos Los Ninos! That is funny stuff right there.

Talk about missed opportunities, ABC could have marketed Colby's Vlog after PVP, DC or MTV & made it a real success with product tie-ins for Fusion, advertisers, scoops, interviews, etc. They could have done a View type segment with Colby for youth, Erica for prestige, recurring Haley appeal, Brooke for cred. Liza could have produced it. 15 minutes, low budget, every two weeks, video podcast. Opal for comic relief. Could even have been a revamped New Beginnings. It could highlight other shows, further story lines, highlight the latest in Hoover style or NY&Co., the best tampon, whatever. And why wasn't Fusion ever pushed like Y&R's Jabot? Fusion at least has a marketable name you can work with. Who wants to look like "Jabot the Hut"? Ok, maybe it's Jabba, but I don't watch Y&R so it sounds like Jaba/Jabot to me.

Did Destiny call Kendall in Pine Valley for some advice about what to do if you think you are pregnant? Who else would have advised her to carry a test around in your purse and take it out at every opportunity!

Brian said...

AMC has finally hit that point where I actually feel something for the character through most of the episode. The dialogue is spot on, too! Every day feels important.

I'm loving Bianca and Marissa, especially with JR telling Bianca today that he doesn't need her help anymore. I'm really really really loving Kendall and Griff. These two have chemestry and the writers are taking full advantage by putting them together and pulling them apart right before we get what we want! LOVE THEM!

Why did it take so many writing teams to finally use the vet characters? We have a Tad story and Erica story. This is unheard of on AMC. Not only that, but I actually care about the teens right now. (But can we all admit that Colby should NOT sing?)

I want more at the end of every episode since about the beginning of June. I'm pretty sure when Dixie started showing up was when we began getting re-written stories.

THE FLYING NEGRO said...

Brian, I think what you're seeing is little traces of Lorraine Broderick and Kate Hall coming out. The Vets have been sidelined for so long, and I wasn't sure they would ever resurface. I am loving Erica/Jane storyline, and I love how David was put into it. They have been on fire lately.

And yes you are correct, sadly Colby cannot sing all that well. Natalie Hall is actually a theater star of sorts, her voice is good for that musical theater style, but not so hot with any other genre.

Brian said...

I have been thinking about how AMC could have been saved. First, why didn't they put Colby's video casts online? Each week we could have got a 3 to 5 minute clip of Colby talking to the audience.

My more rash idea is this: could ABC have moved AMC to around 4 o'clock? It could have taken the place of the syndicated block of ABC around the time people get home from work. I think people might have been more open to watching soaps rather than talk shows or judge shows.

Crystal said...

Brian, I agree I thought they should have moved the shows too. It has to be better than some of the other crap they show.

Dear AMC, please stop letting Colby sing.

PS thanks for taking AMC off the air during my Birthday week! That will be great. 8(

David and Jane are hot; moobs and all! And Lorraine has had Cameron shirtless a lot lately. I think it's supposed to be fan service, but I just get a little queasy.

Also, most bizarre catfight ever. LaLucci's clearly too old to fall on cue without breaking in half. And Erica even trashed that room in a glamorous manner!

Loving Kendall and Griffin. If/when Zach returns, I do hope it's perhaps more as an apparition or ghost or something so that I don't feel like I'm wasting time investing in liking them (sort of like Tad and Cara, who I loved but we know is all pointless now :/ )

Brian said...

I don't understand why Amanda didn't decide to take plan b and just be done with it. It would save her the stress and she could tell Jake that she has the flu. At least JR could have suggested it.

Anonymous said...

@Brian Soaps probably don't know what Plan B is...

Shadow said...

Frons is sitting in his orifice right now pondering what a "planbee" is...."Hmmmm, what is this thing they call planbee. Or is it 'planby'? Damnit. Just cancel it all!"

Brian said...

I just don't understand WHY they had to bring LB back to write for AMC. This is the BEST AMC has been in a decade (at least) and is going to make it that much harder to say goodbye. At least when Pratt was writing I could have walked away without a second thought. But now, I can barely get through the weekends without seeing a new AMC.

I really do enjoy the Jane and Erica story (just because Susan finally get to act and let loose). You can tell that Susan Lucci is loving this story. She is actually working at make these characters two separate women.

And I must apologize for my hate for Marissa. I was one who thought the character wasn't necessary in Pine Valley, but I see my error. She is connected to both Krystal and to David (both are now legacy characters). This actress is 100 times better than the last and has actually made me like the actress.

I do want to address the Jake situation. I think he is totally gross with Amanda, but that is because of the way she acts with him. I get the creeper vibe from Jake. I don't care about him calling her a whore; that was during or right after Chuck Pratt and I think we need to forgive him. It is the same as Madison killing her husband. It is crazy, but as an audience, we are asked to forgive these characters (or forget the crappy writing).

I really hope that Jordash is watching AMC right now. The show is good again. Every day feels important to the story. They are the reason I stuck with it for some of the bad years and I hope they stay podcasting after AMC ends!

All the AMC actors are free from contracts, so everything has to start from scratch. I imagine Bobbie Eakes will stay on, as she's super excited about it. LaLucci might just do minor recurring stuff out of love for the show.

Still on vacation, but wanted to drop a note about the Prospect Park deal. My first thought was, "Yay, the tie that binds our Pine Valley Podcast friends together will continue and our show will too!" You all know how I adore you and love our chats here, and Ashley & Jordan tickle my funny bone so I'm elated AMC & OLTL will soldier on enabling friendships to continue to prosper and grow.

I find it fascinating how soaps have morphed from radio to TV to Internet and how they have been shared by generations of fans from the traditional blood lines to the virtual families like PVP. Whoever says soaps are dead are crazy. They change with the times and are reflective of social trends to this day. The only issue is the gatekeeper-those charged with their care. Fortunately these Peospect Park folks seem poised to build for the future recognizing the material that has provided a solid foundation for growth in the past. The one lesson here is that business demands a profit. Prospect Park is using investment capital. If it doesn't succeed, soaps will brush up against the reaper again. No show will ever be immune to the corporate lunacy we experienced with Frons, Sweeney & ABC. It's up to us to be the guardians and help make PP a success by watching in the manner that hells PP grow. It's up to us to help steer PP in the right direction if they stray too far from the original recipe that in a way that makes AMC & OLTL unrecognizable, diluted imitations of themselves or 90210.

There are so many questions yet to be answered. Will PP complete its funding? Is Fronshole involved in any way besides collecting the check for the license fee? What cast members will sign up for an online series? Exactly how will the show be accessible? Will Carlivati stay at OLTL or go to GH? Who will helm the writing of AMC? Will stupid network standards & practices Still apply or will they be relaxed consistent with cable? What contingencies other than financing must be completed for the deal to move forward? A contract is nice, but meaningless if the conditions precedent and covenants to ensure performance are not met.

So we will see what happens from here. The good news is there's more hope for our shows than there was last week. And our efforts, however small or grand, made a difference. The outpouring was unprecedented, fairly organized & consistent. It made ABC nervous enough to want to try to do something to save face and lower the heat they were feeling. In college I took several RADIO-TV-FILM classes that studied history of social trends through programming using the Lear comedies, Soaps, etc. I think history will look back on this experience with similar interest. It's a story of how a society in the digital era gathers around the water cooler the way people used to gather around the river's edge. Information & infotainment drives our culture now more than the stories themselves, but soaps still form the bedrock of progress. Those who disagree well, time and history will tell. I'm just glad we'll still have this place to gather and talk about it all as it plays out.

brtedi said...

About an hour ago, I heard an ABC newsbrief: AMC,OLTL are going online?!-- I came here first for comfirmation. :-D Thanks, "armless", for the link to the NY Post article. I forwarded the article to my two closest friends, both are avid soap fans.

Arizonagal said...

Shadow, thank you for your eloquence, as usual. So how does this all work w/the show moving online? Is this really going to happen?

Someone pinch me.

Arizonagal said...

In anticipation of the end of AMC and OLTL I decided to start watching Y&R. I just HAVE to have a soap fix in my life. I've had husbands, careers, kids, and along with that I've always had soaps, since I was a wee girl on my mama's knee.

Now, with the hopeful AMC/OLTL news, I can stop wasting my time on YR. Where is the middle class on this show? Everyone is dripping money, and their only problems are a result of their complete stupidity. Good acting, but can't make up for being really out of touch with the real world and totally unrelatable to a normal person like me who worries about the economy, global warming, crime, starving kids, and the stability of my puny 401K. Buhbye YR!

Anonymous said...

@ArizonaGal The only soap with a middle class anymore is Days. ATWT and GL, and even Passions, had middle class families, but they're all gone. OLTL tried to bring the middle class back a couple of years ago, but Frons had them fire all the actors (who were actually popular).

As for AMC, it's getting REALLY good! And I really hope Lorraine goes to the web with the shows. Imagine what she can do without that bald fat ass queen shoving Rylee down her throat!

Anonymous said...

Can I just say that Amanda having an STD is a brilliant idea? Between her and JR throwing their slutty pasts in each others faces, I was laughing my ass off. Especially when JR said he got tested after sleeping with InsAnnie!

Brian said...

Off topic, sort of, but am I the only AMC fan that does not want a Kendall and Zach reunion? I'm enjoying the lust that Kendall and Griffin are bringing to my screen each week. These two are HOT and I just wish we could forget about Zach. But, my question remains. Am I in the minority or do people want this new couple to work?

Mel Got Served said...

Brian, you are not alone. I LOVE Kendall and Griffin and if a Zendall reunion is coming, then I wish they wouldn't waste our time. Same with Cara and Tad. I was so excited about these 2 but since we know Dixie's rolling around a bed somewhere it's kind of pointless.

Anonymous said...

I want Zach to come back as a ghost and tell Kendall to kill Ryan. It's the only scenario I will accept. Not a Zach fan at all, and I like the Castillos, so I'm loving Griffin and Kendall. Those weirdly incestuous siblings are the only good thing Kreizman and Swajeski added to this show.

Jen (Yup that Jen the one that told you Debbie was going to YR) said...

I've seen it all, worst rated first week for Lorraine Broderick, and these stories are too slow especially w/ OLTL following it. Lorraine is done as a writer. Fans on twitter & other boards are criticizing her for continuing to ruin couples they loved, Jannie fans, I can't believe they still have some, hate her. Amanda fans are livid w/ her, JR fans are hoping he walks after his contract is done. No one likes Marissa, not even the Bianca fans and Cara is the most hated by 3 fan bases, Amanda/Jake Tad & Dixie.

Kendall & Griffin are beyond boring. I thought AMC was suppose to get better, maybe Lorraine is truely not cut out to run a show.Maybe she was a one trick pony.

brtedi said...

I've been consciously watching AMC more closely these days...But, evidentally, still not close enough. LOL! Did I hear Jane correctly, when she said, she lost her virginity to David Hayward? Was she being metaphorical? Is there a specific scene with an explanation, somewhere, I must have missed? Would someone explain her reaction to David asking her to leave, the hotel room today. What'd I miss?

brtedi said...

Just saw a "Tuck Everlasting",again, on cable. Anybody who doesn't watch soaps and thinks the majority of actors in the genre are second rate should watch Jonathan Jackson (and others working at his level. Non-soap fans would find out what soap fans, in general--no pun intended--have known for years.

Give me actors like Jonathan Jackson, Jeff Branson,Steve Burton, or Ted King any day of the week...

I watched Brad Pitt, in "Troy", last night. In the end, Orlando Bloom's character shot "Achles"/Pitt with three arrows -- and he still refused to give it up!--I was thinking, Enough already...Will you just fall over dead, so the movie can be done? LOL!--All muscles, and little script just doesn't work for me. JMHO

brtedi said...

"...am I the only AMC fan that does not want a Kendall and Zach reunion?...."

No, you aren't Brian. At first I thought Griffin was a huge snooze fest---Except for the day Opal called him "Dr. Buttercream". That was funny. However, with the LoBro writing, things are looking up for Kendall and Griffin, these days.

While I was never a Zendall fan by any stretch of the imagination, I do understand the need for some fans to have their faves back on screen. Personally, I'm hoping Zach apears as a ghost (or in a dream ) to Kendall. Saying something like:

"Kendall, you were the love of my life. I will love you, always and forever. But, you and the boys are still alive. Go live your lives and be happy. Kendall be open to the idea of loving someone, again. When you're ready, he'll be there--waiting. That sort of senario works for me.

Brian said...

@brtedi Yeah, Jane was a virgin before she lost it with David last week. She has said in the past she was ugly.

Anonymous said...

Cameron said on Twitter that he'd love to stay on with AMC. There goes our chance to get rid of him. He seems like a nice guy, but he's not a good actor and Ryan sucks. Maybe getting him away from Frons influence will help make the Ryanderthal more tolerable?

Ashley said...

re: the whole virginity thing.... I thought Jane lost a daughter?

Mel Got Served said...

The daughter was adopted, the only person who could look past her hideous face and love her for who she was. womp womp!

Shadow said...

Ryan gets better with good writers just because the material has more depth. Remember when Lorraine came back last year she almost made Greenlee & Ryan tolerable with better material and more balanced screen time.

Lorraine could turn the ship around in a day if she wanted to but it's not her style. She's going to make it all make sense somehow. She's going to be respectful of everyone and her stories will build steam & speed. She has 3 months to un-do years of crap and she doesn't do short attention span theater. Jen, it's worth noting thar the JR & Annie story and romance you loved so much was ALL Broderick's doing. She normalized Annie, separated her from Adam, put Adam & Brooke back together as they should be, and created Jannie-the hottest thing on AMC in years. Immediately Kreizman & Swajeski started dicking with them and made Annie nuts again.

Broderick's material has barely been on 2 weeks. Let's give it a chance before hating on her. Hers is an almost unimaginable task--ending a 41 year iconic show that Frons has been screwing with and systematically destroying for years. I think we need to cut her some slack, have fun and snark, but reserve judgment until the end. Returns are fixing ti kick in. Madison is changing. More characters are back on screen. David is back and so brilliant under Lorraine's pen. Lucci is firing on all cylinders despite goofy material. I see all the actors revving up for a big finish.

Shadow said...

This is big--the end of the line of THE perceived gold standard (no matter what has actually happened to it in recent years). All eyes are on AMC even if it isn't reflected in Nielsen ratings. The Prospect Park folks actually are power players in entertainment all of whom NEED to take a risk and make a success for one reason or another. They have quality teams representing them legally and professionally in the entertainment industry. These are people soap actors outside the Lucci realm may nit have access to under normal circumstances. We make assumptions about what is affordable or doable without knowing details or other factors which may make the numbers work for those involved outside the traditional soap model and compensation structure. I'm sure PP isn't going into this just to recreate the same tired model ABC was running. Sure, we're going to lose some fan favorites like the Hubbards, but honestly we lost them when Morgan left to treat lyme's disease. But for those who don't make the leap, there are 41 years worth of fan favorites to take their place. Think of all the families and characters that are off canvas now, all the stories that have started only to end abruptly. Lorraine & Agnes are here to tie up the loose ends and rewrite the bible. Cameron signing up would be a good sign that PP is capable of affording and recruiting bankable talent with other options. I'm sure ABC could plop him down at GMA, Chew or Revo.

I say all this with a certain skepticism. PP has a lot of detail and contingencies to sort thru & resolve. It could all fall apart easily if things don't line up correctly. At least for now we need to encourage sone patience and love for AMC and OLTL and maybe.help give PP some direction. Believe it or not, some important people do eyeball our little blog and listen in to Ashley and Jordan.

It's certainly a big IF. I don't believe for one second ABC, Frons or Sweeney gave a rat's ass about the shows, the casts, the crews, or us until the fury refused to die down. I do believe the PP people want this to work. There was real interest from Sony and others in these shows. IF PP can make it work it will throw everybody into the spotlight and maybe provide opportunities and recognition to make up for all the shit ABC put them through. Maybe. If. We'll see. For now, I'm happy all these people I care about have something working. And maybe, hopefully, spitefully, a lonely, beat down Fronshole will be collecting unemployment soon after ChewRevo tank and Disney will realize that Sweeney isn't the genius they perceive her to be. Meanwhile we'll be enjoying our soaps on our schedule anytime we want them. I hope. Maybe. It could happen......

Hey, Shadow! :-)

I was reading twitter--and saw some of your posts--Is The Revolution that Jamie Oliver reality show? Or, is it something akin to The Biggest Looser? Most reality shows, imho, are basically sucktastic! :-( If I want reality, all I have to do is go out my front door.

I have a theory about AMC online. I'm guessing that they may consider jumping ahead in time. This would explain for the lack of original cast and allow for an all new cast. It would actually be a good idea because of all of the kids that are currently on the show.

Hello brtedi: Jamie Oliver's Food Revolution is an ABC primetime series that has been cancelled due to low ratings. It's season 2ratings dropped off 40% over the first season. ABC Daytime's Revolution is more of a lifestyle show that follows a fat girl around for 3 months and airs her transition over 5 days. So I guess on Monday you'll see a frumpy, fat, tatted up, suicidal, beat down homegirl who morphs into a lovely, confident, thin swan by Friday. She will be assisted by Kim Locke, the fat-ish American Idol contestant who was 3rd to Clay Aiken and Ruben Studdard and later lost some of it on Celebrity Fit which is the Fat Show for Celebutards on VH1. I don't know what her purpose is except maybe to sing to them as they workout or something. They will be guided in style by Tim Gunn who already has one failed style show under his belt. I guess he will trail them around, pause, put his chin in his hand, spout some fashion advice about covering your tats and mutter some sort of catchphrase as he does on Project Runway. There is also some celebrity trainer guy who doesn't seem very inspiring to me. It's all produced by the team that brings us The Biggest Loser so there will probably be lots of fake drama, instrumental theatrics and post-commercial repeats of the stuff you just watched 5 seconds pre-commercial for the purpose of cutting live material from 43 minutes to like 12 thereby maximizing ABC's profit.

Did you hear about this really exciting contest to meet EJ and Stefano on the Days of Our Lives Set and to
appear with them in Soap Opera Digest? Check it out at http://www.classwish.org/days/fame

Still laughing at Shadow’s “Revolution” essay- brilliant, brilliant stuff! While I have seen and enjoyed The Biggest Loser, those two hour shows where 75 minutes of the show is people getting weighed as a microwave ready buzzer *BEEP BEEP BEEPS* incessantly in the background, has me wondering why I watch.

I completely love AMC right now. I read the SOD article with LoBro and it is clear that she truly gets the show. Greenlee has her edge back, and I can’t take my eyes off her right now. I feel for Amanda, I think the character is being written better than ever. Kendall and Griff are HOT, Cara and Tad are sweet, and LaLucci is front and center. We only have just over a couple of months left for our beloved show, and who knows what the internet incarnation will look like. I am going to enjoy it while I can.

OLTL has been great (One huge exception is the impossibly-horrible Jack; why didn’t they hire that other little, weasel-like bully kid? He would have been great!)
But I would say that while One Life has been exciting and campy, All My Kids has been warm and more satisfying lately-much like the great tradition of soaps.

Amphitrion noted that "One Life has been exciting and campy, All My Kids has been warm and more satisfying". That is exactly the recipe that made the duo so successful once upon a time. And then GH was, well, cutting edge? Mob, weather management, etc. The shows had their own feel and flavor before Frons arrival and insistence that they have a similar look and style. Amphitrion? Brilliant mind who likes my sense of humor and obviously is a total genius. Frons? Total dumbass.

Shadow, your analysis of Revolution, pretty much sums up my overall distain for reality shows. Thank you, for you eloquence

"I have a theory about AMC online. I'm guessing that they may consider jumping ahead in time...."

Brian, your theory just might be the springboard, for the new format. In one fell swoop, character departures and the mass SORAS-ing of the kiddy set may well be explained...We've all joked about this before but, wouldn't it be fun, if Spike got a college acceptance letter, in which the audience finds out "Spike" is merely the young man's nickname afterall...Or, even better---What if Emma really does have mental health issues, similar to those of Annie. "Emma" could evolve into a plum roll, for some taented younger actress.

So... TV Guide says there is good buzz that LoBro is staying with AMC when it goes online. I love this and I love that wonderfully talented woman.

However, Crapputhers is supposed to be staying on with the show as well. I can NOT abide by this. Isn't there a street corner with her name on it? That bitch couldn't handle the show with a Network TV budget. What's she gonna do with the tiny web budget?

*Putting on my Opal Pilgrim outfit...running down my street in Santa Monica* Run for your lives, the heavens are green! Carmageddon is coming!!

With the upcoming end of life in L.A. as we know it (the major 405 closure)*eye roll* I will have all weekend to stay home and catch up with my 16 episodes of AMC, OLTL, and GH.

Life; it be grand!

So... Jesse Tyler Ferguson from Modern Family is a douche. http://daytimeconfidential.zap2it.com/2011/07/13/-modern-familys-jesse-tyler-ferguson-on-soaps-why-we-are-just-now-canceling-them

I don't watch the show already (The Middle is A LOT better), but this isn't encouraging me to do so.

Brian said...

I can understand Jesse Tyler Ferguson in that soaps are never advertised on TV other than during the day. And, we call agree that the soap sucked a few months ago. I just don't like when actors dismiss an entire genre which they have no experience in. Soap acting is much tougher than putting out a half-hour comedy which he is only a small part of. It is also harder than late night soaps (and they are soaps) because they tell their story in 22 episode, rather than 5 one hour episodes each week.

Wow, AMC was really good today. In fact, this whole week has been amazing. I'm gonna say it: AMC was the best soap on the air this whole week, with OLTL a very close second.

Loving the Amanda/Jake/JR cheating and HPV stuff. Loving the Bianca/JR/Marissa scenes and how nobody is the bad guy. These are flesh and blood people. Dumbass and Dipshit wrote two dimensional characters. Pratthole was lucky if he could get one. LoBro has made them three dimensional and more.

And I want JR to buy Bianca a toaster and snarl "I hope you're happy."

Does anyone know who Addie Walsh is? She is credited as head writer as well as Loraine. Is it a pen-name for Agnes Nixon?

Shadow said...

Addie has been around for years. She started in tge early 80's on Texas and went to Search, Days, ATWT & all the ABC shows rotating in and out of jobs as breakdown writer, Associate Head Writer, Co-Head Writer. She seems to be a go to transitional writer. Nixon picked for Loving. She's been with AMC mostly since 2000 except for about a year. She's popular with Lucci and the cast because she keeps up with the history. She's about the only constant the AMC writing team has seen in 10 years. She worked with Broderick, McTavish, Pratt, Esensten & Brown, K&S. Poor thing deserves a Purple Heart.

Shadow said...

Clarification: I don't think Addie ever wrote for Ryan's Hope or GH but I know she wrote for Loving, OLTL & AMC. Agnes likes her.

TheGhostofVerlaGrubbs said...

Has anyone else read La Looch's autobio? I'm halfway through...

Brian said...

Thanks, Shadow! I was thinking that Addie was a pseudonym. If she is the reason we are getting so much deep AMC history, than she is my favorite writer!

On a different subject, has the last few episodes of AMC been a little off? I wasn't overly impressed with Marissa's acting; which is strange because I love her storyline and she has been so good lately. Even Griffin has been a little off since he kissed Kendall. I'm I wrong?
